1.  Obesity As A Virus..?

1.  Over the past few years, there’s been considerable coverage about the causes of obesity. Specifically, according to Wikipedia, an emerging field of research - known as Infectobesity - is studying the connection between pathogens (disease causing organisms such as bacteria and viruses) and weight gain.

2.  Although to date it would appear that no human testing has taken place, preliminary findings suggest that:

1. Obesity is caused by a virus – purportedly the adenovirus Ad-37, found predominantly in chickens, and 2 other related Adenoviruses Ad-36 and Ad-5, which were found to cause obesity in animals. Adenoviruses usually cause respiratory infections.
2. Obesity may be infectious. The  infection takes 2 forms: first, the transmission of the virus from animal to person, or person to person (by a method unknown); second “social transmission” i.e. being in the company of fat people somehow makes a person eat more.

There are a number of observations that can be made about obesity, the economics of obesity, body image and the obese fag.
