3.  Be Careful What You Sniff In Canada

A new crisis is developing in Canada and it’s not the housing bubble.

A far more sinister one, that is taking the country by storm, as a new wave of fentanyl has washed up on the shores of Canada from an unknown origin most likely China, and has made it onto city streets.

To our friends in the business district of Toronto, be careful what you sniff - it might contain fentanyl. 

The number of positive tests for fentanyl in samples of heroin seized by law enforcement agencies across Canada have exploded........

Seems as China has turned on the fentanyl spigot in 2016 and 2017…

Over the past five-years of tests, marijuana samples seized by law enforcement agencies contained no fentanyl. But on a more interesting note, cocaine and methamphetamine seized by law enforcement agencies reported an increase. A potential health hazard for the modern day bankers in Toronto…..

The most common drugs the service tests for include marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, hydromorphone, oxycodone, MDMA, alprazolam and GHB.

Fentanyl was not identified in any of the marijuana samples tested over the five-year period, while cocaine and methamphetamine saw increases from 0.01 per cent to 1.8 per cent and zero per cent to 1.7 per cent, respectively. Overall, the figures are stark. In 2012, only 217 of the street drug samples tested positive for fentanyl. Just as the number of lives claimed by the deadly opioid has skyrocketed since then, so too has the number of times fentanyl has showed up in samples of illegal street drugs. As of Sept. 30, DAS found fentanyl in 4,568 samples this year – an increase of 2,005 per cent.

According to Dr. David Juurlink, head of clinical pharmacology and toxicology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto:

“...the exponential increase of street drugs testing positive for fentanyl over the last five years doesn’t surprise. The illicit drug supply has never been more dangerous because of the profusion of fentanyl-related compounds. This is why so many people are dying. They’re dying because the drugs they’re using contain, you know, much more opioid than they thought."

Dr. Michael Krausz, a professor of psychiatry specializing in addiction at the University of British Columbia, explains drug dealers “want to save money or make higher profits”, so fentanyl is mixed into drugs like heroin or cocaine to stretch their supplies.

Krausz also said drug dealers are not skilled enough to keep fentanyl doses in a survivable range while mixing it with heroin or cocaine, which is why many experts believe overdoses are occurring. Simply, the end user is not realizing what he/she is getting and ends up dead.

Juurlink said several factors sparked fentanyl’s rise:

• increase in demand for opioids as overprescription of painkillers led to addiction
• flood of prescription medication
• fentanyl patches
• blackmarket

In British Columbia, 80% of the street drugs are laced with fentanyl........

China is a key source of illicit fentanyl coming to Canada in response to demand from prescription-painkiller addicts as well as users of street drugs, traffickers are turning to a pharmaceutical-manufacturing giant to produce deadly, black-market versions of fentanyl...

Once the drug is in, it is processed – often in Western Canada - Because illicit fentanyl and fentanyl analogues are so potent, the white powder is cut or mixed with other drugs and fillers, before it can be sold on the street. Most of the 21 clandestine labs dismantled by police since 2013 operated in British Columbia and Alberta......

 Bottom line: China is flooding North America with fentanyl through shipping routes into Canada. The opioid crisis is far from over and its about to kick into hyperdrive. The one question we ask: how will bankers in Toronto and or on Wall Street deal with the very real possibility their blackmarket stimulants could contain fentanyl?

1.  In the post, Tighty Whitey, we said this (underlining and bold print by FuelMix):

2.  In an earlier post, Fucked Up Fags In Canada 1, we referred to a study which highlighted the higher risk gay men were at for anxiety, mood disorders and heavy drinking.

Re your recent col on Vangroovy, [ Death Of A Gay Ghetto 15 ] I write this as I prepare to pack my vehicle to head to Van Island to dodge Pride weekend for all the obvious reasons of a demographic celebrating engaging in poor lifestyle choices with regard to spending habits and substance abuse. That aside, yes, the current imbroglio really got rolling about 18 yrs back, I recall picking up literature at the Garden Hotel in Guangzhou from immigration promoters laying out the early blueprint for what accelerated massively over the last five years thanks to the hot money rocket fuel skimmed from the big infrastructure push in the mainland of 09-13. 

He pointed out that there are plenty of ways to restore one's soul and find balance: namely the outdoor scenery around Vancouver which provide spectacular mountainous and thickly forested locations for sex.  He's right.  He speaks from personal experience. (And so do we, come to think of it).

In regards to Vancouver, many of your past posts came to mind, I recall you writing about gays or people in general finding a city so expensive that they will become roommates at a later age, barter for services...anything to get by in general. Well that is what Vancouver has quickly become and it's too late to go back now in my opinion......I cannot believe how many people I run into with all kinds of degrees working a minimum 2 jobs, not unusual for people to have 4 part time jobs...just to get by with the fear of missing one pay cheque or spending too much going out for dinner and it putting them out.

 Many in denial too...best place on earth and all that. Everyone looks exhausted, you don't see people smiling or laughing, people seem too tired to know what to do with their lives and the drugs are absolutely rampant on the street.

 ...the 'rich' are keeping low and almost hiding, the poor are complaining big time and getting all kinds of handouts (like free tickets to movies, ski trips in the winter anything to keep them off the street) the squeaky wheel gets the grease type of deal and the working class are slowly showing signs of a revolt, doing their best but their best is slowly eroding and not enough anymore. It's not paying to follow the rules.

NO gay scene here at all. None. I'm hearing from friends that even just getting together needs to be scheduled so far ahead depending on work schedules and then they are exhausted when they meet up.

 Professionals are not accepting jobs as they can't buy a home here, and families are leaving town. They showed on the news people camping out in line to buy a condo in fucking Abbotsford. People here are obsessed with having a condo like it will be a lottery winning when in fact they will be working 100 hours a week to pay for a box that will eventually leak. When the crash comes, it will go down hard.

FuelMix says:

1.   There's not much more we can add to our already comprehensive analysis of Gay Vancouver, a microcosm of much larger social and economic issues in a "city" that is still touted as "Best Place In The World To Live". It's a claim that rings increasingly hollow and laughable - yet Denial runs very deep, not only as we discovered when we pointed things out, but as the reader who submitted this report alluded.

2.   12 years ago, we started warning anyone who would listen that there would be a convergence of economic, corruption, Chinese immigrant, development, lousy law enforcement, crime, homelessness and drug factors in Vancouver that would crush the Gay Ghetto in the West End,  force people out of the area AND trigger city-wide wealth and income inequality of astounding proportions.

3.   As usual, we were told that we were "racist" - and that our comments lacked social sensitivity.

4.   We will simply end this post by observing that the drug-fucked descent of the two-block Faggot Ghetto in particular, and a city in deep denial in general, is proceeding as predicted and on schedule.

Fucked Up Fags In Canada

We've said before that Vancouver is a text book example of a dying gay ecosystem and we've analyzed its degeneration in considerable detail in the Gay Vancouver series.

From our actual observations, we maintain that fags in Vancouver are absolutely fucked up in more ways than one. But don't just take our word for it.  "Experts" are now saying fucked-up fags are a Canada-wide phenomenon....

From the Abstract published in the American Journal of Public Health, January 16, 2016: (Underlining and bold print by FuelMix):

Objectives. To investigate the prevalence and co-occurrence of heavy drinking, anxiety, and mood disorders among Canadians who self-identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or heterosexual.

Methods. Pooled data from the 2007 to 2012 cycles of the Canadian Community Health Survey (n = 222 548) were used to fit logistic regression models controlling for sociodemographic characteristics.

Results. In adjusted logistic regression models, gay or lesbian respondents had greater odds than heterosexual respondents of reporting anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety–mood disorders. Bisexual respondents had greater odds of reporting anxiety disorders, mood disorders, anxiety–mood disorders, and heavy drinking. Gay or lesbian and bisexual respondents had greater odds than heterosexuals of reporting co-occurring anxiety or mood disorders and heavy drinking. The highest rates of disorders were observed among bisexual respondents, with nearly quadruple the rates of anxiety, mood, and combined anxiety and mood disorders relative to heterosexuals and approximately twice the rates of gay or lesbian respondents.

Conclusions. Members of sexual minority groups in Canada, in particular those self-identifying as bisexual, experience disproportionate rates of anxiety and mood disorders, heavy drinking, and co-occurring disorders. (Am J Public Health.

So there it is......we're sure the nice people who put the stats together meant well.  But we can't help but detect a teeny-weeny bit of Political Correctness, an annoying sugary trait for which Canadians are as renowned as for their other sugary trait, maple syrup.

What appears to be glaringly missing from explicit mention in  the study is......DRUGS....and specifically, a fag's propensity to show up at the Weed, Crystal Meth, Cocaine and Amphetamine Buffet.  And in Canada - particularly the West Coast thereof - that combination of Socio-Liberal-Facist, Politically Correct, Entitlement Mentality leads to many fags using that quaint self-description of "recreational drug user".

Further, we've also said that Faggotry is a global sub-standard behavioural franchise. In other words, just like the ubiquitous burger franchise, what occurs in one place is mirrored half way around the world.  Drugs are an entrenched, yet tragic, feature of Faggotry wherever one looks.  The reality of the Canadian study is that it would probably be mirrored in any Fagland (remember, our definition of "Fagland" is a postal code and/or a state of mind).

Advocates of Pride talk about gay men being free to be who they are. If the Canadian study is any guide, gay men who are free to fuck themselves up mentally and emotionally (via heavy drinking, drugs, anxiety and mood disorders, all of which are inter-related)  don't appear to be too thrilled with it.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow 2

FuelMix continued his conversation with the gay financial planner operating in Vancouver's gay ghetto.  As in Part 1, the points made are universal and are published to trigger some thought.

FM: What’s the deal with the younger fags in Vancouver's ghetto...? The 20 – 30s crowd?  

FFP: A train wreck waiting to happen. 

FM: Why? 

FFP: A lot of them moved here from smaller towns. Lousy families with emotional issues stacked to the ceiling. Basically they fled here so they could be fags. 

FM: Nothing wrong with looking for personal and emotional freedom is there? 

FFP: No…..and this is the weirdest thing…..you know how High School was miserable for many fags.....couldn’t fit in……peer pressure or hostility…..bullying….bashing….? 

FM: Uh…huh. 

FFP: The same thing happens in the ghetto. They don’t bash but they bully in a funny exclusionary kind of way. 

FM: I don’t’ understand 

FFP: There’s tons of pressure to do the whole drug scene, the bar scene, the baths, the afterparties, that whole “Oh My God!” squealing twink shit, the tattoos, the piercings..… 

FM: What about the money? 

FFP: Zip. These guys are paycheck to paycheck. Maxed out on their credit cards. They have a lot of credit cards. 

FM: So what do you advise them to do? 

FFP: Get out of debt would be nice. I can’t help them invest or advise them to do anything else. These young fags have staggering amounts of debt – and they think it’s all good 'coz all their friends live the same way. 

FM: What kinda jobs do they have? 

FFP: I hate to say it….but low level retail. Sometimes 2 or 3 jobs. If they’re lucky they might get into low level corporate. My guess is that very few will actually get to senior executive level. 

FM: So technically they have 2 or 3 sources of income but are still in major debt? What’s going on?

FFP: No discipline. It’s like they dumped their families, fled here, looked around for fuckbuddies or boyfriend-of-the-moment and then it’s paaahhh-teeee 

FM: Do they keep their jobs for long? 

FFP: Nope. They flit. 

FM: So they flit between low level retail jobs? 

FFP: Yeah and apartments. 

FM: Huh? 

FFP: Coz they’re maxed out, they can’t afford the rent for long. 

FM: So there’s no stable roof over their heads and no stable job?

FFP:  Pretty much. Like I said, train wreck waiting to happen.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow 1

FuelMix was chatting to a fag financial planner (FFP), marketing his services to the gay ghetto in Vancouver. We think the points made in it are universal. The conversation went like this: 

FM: Raking it in? 

FFP: Yeah…it’s easier than I thought. 

FM: Oh….? 

FFP: The older fags, mid 40s and up, seem to have some sense about planning their future. But they’re leaving it too late. 

FM: Meaning…………? 

FFP: Till they get hit with HIV or surgery or some other health problem. Then they wake up….but by that time they’re desperate so they scramble around looking for any financial product. 

FM: Can they analyse? 

FFP: Nope....no fuckin’ clue.  

FM: So what do they buy? 

FFP: Usually mutual funds 

FM: You sell ‘em? 

FFP: Yup. I have a catalogue with several hundred mutual funds I can offer. 

FM: So…how does the fag pick his mutual funds? 

FFP: You know, I just give them the book, they flip thru it, pick one or two. 

FM: That’s it? 

FFP: Pretty much. 

FM: No analysis? 

FFP: Nope 

FM: How come? 

FFP: They think there’s a cachet in having their money “professionally managed”…and besides, you know Danny is having that dinner party tonite, and they’re gonna sit around talking opera. 

FM: Are these fags rich? 

FFP: No, not by a long shot. There’s the super-rich fags who are smart and savvy, and there’s these other guys…..you know, “hey I’m investing, I’ve got a mutual fund”. 

FM: Where do the smart savvy super-rich fags hang out? 

FFP: Anywhere but the ghetto. 

FM: Why are you in the ghetto? 

FFP: It’s easy money. These guys don’t know much, they’re too embarrassed to ask questions and then there’s the realization they’ve left it too late. Their hands are kinda tied. 

FM: Do they make healthy gains on their mutual funds? 

FFP: Most of them lose. These fund managers nickel and dime them to death whether they get in, or get out. 

FM: So don’t these fags analyze their statements from the fund company? 

FFP: No not really. They’ll call me up and whine. I listen and tell them to hang in there. And after all their money’s “professionally managed” right? 

FM: They buy that? 

FFP: Yeah pretty much. It’s like a menstrual cycle. I’ll get a call every 3 months from a fag who’ll complain that his investment is tanking. And I’ll soothe his feathers and that’ll be it. 

FM: If this is what they’re doing, will they have any real money to retire on? 

FFP: No. There’s a lot of bullshit out there. They like to brag that they’ve taken “early retirement” and they’re now ‘travelling and seeing the world” – but they’re expenses are like…whoa….and they don’t have a fuckin’ clue where the money’s going. A lot of them are on meth and stuff, so a lot of cash just kinda goes up in smoke. 

FM: What about the younger fags? 

FFP: Don’t get me started……………………..

Desperate Semantics

A reader in Vancouver who's been following our series entitled, Death of a Gay Ghetto, wrote to us:

Oh dear, so since the city is now working on a new West End plan, XtraWest [a gay publication] and businesses are now trying to call Davie Street - "Gaybourhood" because they think it should extend out past the street itself.......blah, blah, blah......

Still not offering anything new, just letting that old record skip.  Even some tryhards are posting on Facebook about going down to the "Gaybourhood".......blah, blah.......... 


FuelMix says:

1.    Let's start with the premise that there is firstly, the unadulterated English language and secondly, the entirely artificial Gay Politically Correct English Language which Faggotry would prefer to make compulsory, as part of its social and mind control agenda.

2.    Let's also assume that the contrast between the two, is analagous to that of a mother tongue (in this case, real English) and a foreign language (in this case, fag PC English - which Faggotry is imposing as the new mother tongue).

3.    Here's what is actually going on:

The commercial "gay core" of Vancouver (less than 2 blocks - and even that is not 100% gay - and shrinking) is rotting. A combination of turf wars, stifled competition, drugs, disease, the homeless, a lack of buying power, corruption and a lack of vision, has resulted in the "gay core"  being surrounded by creeping urban development. In other words, urban gentrification at the behest of str8 property developers

4.    Back in 2010, we came across an article about language influencing thought. We bookmarked it pursuant to a gut feeling we might refer to it at some point.  Underlining by FuelMix:

"Since there is no evidence that any language forbids its speakers to think anything, we must look in an entirely different direction to discover how our mother tongue really does shape our experience of the world. Some 50 years ago, the renowned linguist Roman Jakobson pointed out a crucial fact about differences between languages in a pithy maxim: “Languages differ essentially in what they must convey and not in what they may convey.” This maxim offers us the key to unlocking the real force of the mother tongue: if different languages influence our minds in different ways, this is not because of what our language allows us to think but rather because of what it habitually obliges us to think about."

5.    We've said it before that Politically Correct language (in this case, Gay PC English) not only sanitizes the richness of the language, but censors accuracy and enquiry.  Its contrived nature is coercive - it distorts thought in order to direct it to a pre-ordained conclusion. It is entirely perverse in its intent to structure thinking.

6.    So if we're right that Faggotry in Vancouver is imposing Gay PC English as the new mother tongue, then "gaybourhood" makes perfect sense. It's a clumsy attempt to habituate thought in an obligatory way.

7.    From the same article:

"The area where the most striking evidence for the influence of language on thought has come to light is the language of space — how we describe the orientation of the world around us."

We would suggest that using language to describe the orientation of the world is not limited to the cardinal points of the compass. In certain cases it could accurately describe a social orientation e.g. this is a Latino neighbourhood, or this is Chinatown.

8.    This is what the Vancouver fags are doing.  The thinking goes like this:

• the "gay core" is fucked and will remain so for some time;
• we cannot publicly admit that gay economic power is not working in favour of the "gay core";
• we know that we have gays living in the vicinity, but there's no proof that gays make up the largest demographic in the West End - and they probably don't.
• the West End re-development plan is an implicit threat to the "gay core";
• the "gay core" is already under siege from developers;
• we've consistently lied about the spectator numbers for Gay Pride;
• there is nothing superior or "world class" about gay life in Vancouver and the "gay core" that we claim lies at its heart, is a fuckin' embarrassment; 
• the fags in the West End have to date, shown no interest in actually re-vitalizing gay businesses in the "gay core" or fronting up with venture capital funds to gentrify the "gay core" to give it a distinctly gay identity which could potentially spread and socially re-brand the area. They're trapped by their own corrupt practices, bad mouthing competition, drug dealing and disease;
• the cheapest option is to direct the use of language and keep up "the noise";
• By calling it "gaybourhood" we can divert attention from the rotting "gay core", and focus people's attention on the surrounding streets where the fags - who may not be in the majority - are living; and thereby con people into thinking the entire area is something it isn't;
• Like propaganda, the more it is peddled, the more the Sheeple will lap it up;
• The more the Sheeple lap it up, the more it becomes habituated;

9.    From the same article (underlining by FuelMix):

"So different languages certainly make us speak about space in very different ways. But does this necessarily mean that we have to think about space differently? By now red lights should be flashing....."

How Vancouver's Town Planners Will Make the Gay Ghetto All New and Shiny.......And We Do Mean Shiny............

The town planners have released a draft of the Community Development Plan for Vancouver's West End, which includes the run down gay area of Davie Street.  See the report by Global News dated 7 November 2013, entitled Vancouver's West End to get makeover: more housing, more open-air plazas.

Seriously, we're not making this shit up.

Other than some open air plazas and taller buildings on the periphery of the West End; plus the addition of landfill infill housing in the alleys which should nicely offset the dumpsters (and the drug dealing), we haven't seen anything concrete about revitalization of the actual Fagland.

We suspect that despite the PC noises, the Community Development Plan isn't about preserving the Gay Village, but rather about cramming more people into the locality. We'd predicted this years ago, pointing out that the low-grade gay retail and fast food franchises in Vancouver's Fagland, (to which one can now add druggies and the urinating homeless) were symptoms of an economically crippled demographic which in the long term, was unsustainable. The West End in general, also has a large elderly and transient student population who do not have economic power.

The urban creep westwards from Yaletown (large chunks of which were developed by a property giant originating from Asia in Very Rich Megacity) and southwards from Coal Harbour is unstoppable. We're always fascinated to hear the screeching of the local fags that "the Village" needs to be "preserved", or that "it has historical value" or that the gay identity "is intrinsic to the West End". Fair enough.  We're sure their hearts are in the right place. But it's their words that give them away. It's always about preserving the status quo - hardly ever does one hear anything about "expansion", "revitalization", "regeneration", "reinvention".  And that's not surprising. Elsewhere in this series, we've commented on the pathetic local gay culture in Vancouver of corruption, drug dealing, conflicts of interest, bad mouthing and turf protectionism.  A Fourth World, Banana Republic mentality prevails. It's not gonna change anytime soon.

If it's an overhead installation that they want at the intersection of Davie and Bute, we think it should be a pinata that would crack open every few minutes and scatter meth tablets on the delighted fags below.

Poppers: the Asset Bubble (that just burst...)

Scanning the financial media for signs that the New-Normal, Grossly Inflated, Asset Bubble generated by endless rounds of overt and covert Quantitative Easing, was headed for a collapse........little did we realize that the harbinger of an Asset Bubble collapse would occur in God's Meth Lab in general, or that unflushed toilet on the West Coast that bills itself as World Class City, in particular.

We had previously alluded in this blog that the 4 classes of assets held by fags were:

1. chems
2. toys
3. porn
4. underwear

A reader in Vancouver informed us that Priape, a Canadian gay retailer, (its name, incidentally, is related to the medical term priapism which means an erection that just won't quit and needs medical attention) shut down its stores in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.  Apparently they had rather a lot of debt which had been accruing well before the start of the Pride season in June 2013.

The publicly stated reason for the closure of the stores, is the warning against the sale and distribution of alkyl nitrites a.k.a. Poppers, issued by Health Canada in June 2013 just before the Pride season. It turns on the technical distinction between a narcotic and a drug. Whilst possession of alkyl nitrites is not illegal, Poppers are considered a drug whose sale is regulated by law. Unauthorized sales are punishable by jail and a fine.

Anyone who's studied business knows that it's not unusual for a company to have either roaring sales volume on one of its products, or a highly profitable product - just before it collapses. Apparently the latter was the case for Priape where, as can be seen from the quote above, the sales of Poppers were the most profitable item.

Read that last line again, fags.

Nationwide, across God's Meth Lab, Poppers kept this store afloat compared to its other product lines of toys, porn, clothes and leather. 

What does THAT tell you about the demographics and purchasing habits of fags in God's Meth Lab.......?

That's right......drug-fucked white trash.

And that's the scientific term.

We were absolutely right in identifying chems as one of the major "asset" classes for a fag's disposable income.

We're told from our source in Vancouver, that there's no shortage of online wailing and gnashing of teeth bemoaning yet another retail loss to "the community" (the-sort-of-2-blocks of it shared with the homeless, dollar stores, Starbucks and junk food franchises).  Typical. Gotta ramp up the drama.

We think it's not so much the "loss" to "the community" as it is the realization that, (unless one is in the pharmaceutical industry), chemically driven retail in a low-grade (c'mon dude, you've seen the pictures of Davie Street in this series), socially inept locale is not a sustainable business model.

Which got us thinking........all these "recreational drug users" (their PC term for what FuelMix alleges are part-time addicts) showing up to buy little bottles of Poppers that generated tremendous profitability and which by law are a drug........kinda makes a retailer look like a dealer.

Bottom Line: It was a drug bust AND a debt shutdown.

Vancouver's Dirty Gay Secret.......Deaths in the gay saunas......drugs..??

Halfway across the world, from here in Very Rich Megacity, we keep hearing about the downward social spiral of that unflushed toilet on the West Coast (that bills itself as "World Class City").

As we've pointed out before in this series, there's no shortage of peeps in Asia who've been to Vancouver, lived there, studied there or have relatives and friends there.  Their information is accurate and right up to date.  More often than not - once one gets past the "oh......the scenery is so pretty....." facade - the reality of life - gay or str8 - is shitty. (Further, the well informed in Asia flatly reject The Economist's suspiciously repetitive ranking of Vancouver as "Best Place In The World To Live" ........).

We've received praise for our accurate coverage of the Death of a Gay Ghetto series - and apparently it's been discussed on Facebook - not that we care about the praise, we're more interested in the accuracy.

It's been known in Asia for several years that :

• Vancouver ranks high (pun intended) on the list of drug-fucked cities of the world; and
• the gay saunas in Vancouver have high drug overdose rates and several deaths. It's well known in Vancouver too, but hardly talked about within "the community" since they're subject to politically correct coverups and gay-community enforced censorship. There's a symbiotic relationship between the saunas and local gay media. One needs customer goodwill.  The other needs the advertising revenue.

A reader in Vancouver sent us an update - of yet another "sudden death" in a gay YVR bath house. See here.  Initially, it was met with an online wall of silence and silent terror but we understand from our source that a couple of people are asking questions on a gay forum that is notorious for its censorship.

We have the names of saunas in YVR which have been the subject of overdoses and / or deaths, but we won't publicly name them.  We don't need to.  They're only 3 of them downtown anyway (and a so-called playspace) Do the math.

Wanna hear something even more bizarre that explains the silent terror with which news of this latest fatality was received......??

The answer:  So long as it didn't happen this time in the most popular sauna in town, it's OK.

God forbid that Vancouver fags should lose their current favourite fuck joint to a corpse...........*sigh*.

Seriously, we're not making this stuff up.

(So now in Vancouver, when the fags complain that a gay sauna is "dead", ask exactly what that means.....).

Yet again, we have to point out to some of our (white) easily outraged, politically correct readers, that we're not interested in gratuitously bashing a city.  We've said it before that Vancouver presents a text book example of all that is structurally, socially and systemically wrong with a gay ghetto. And that deserves analysis and commentary - if only to bash through the pervasive wall of silence and get people to confront the issues for future generations of gay men worldwide.

Vancouver's Gay Pride:  Fact, Fib or Fibonacci......?

Our analysis of the death of Gay Vancouver takes a fascinating twist, courtesy of a reader over there who sent us a series of links about the Pride Parade held on 4 August 2013.

The gist of the matter is the publicly quoted figure for the estimated size of the crowd that would purportedly throng the streets to watch the parade. The higher the figure, the more taxpayer funding for the event.

(Underlining and bold print by FuelMix):

"Skepticism should drive journalism. To fulfill its role in a democracy, the news media, in whatever form, must always question the official story. Sometimes the official story is true. Sometimes it isn't. Journalism must bridge that gap. Anything less is public relations.....................

Anyway, the parade's not for everyone. And that's fine.

But thanks to Vancouver city council, almost everyone in Vancouver is now paying for it.  Council, armed with a report from Jerry Dobrovolny, the city's director of transportation, voted unanimously in May to grant civic status to the Vaisakhi Parade, the Chinatown Spring Festival Parade and the Pride Parade. Which means taxpayers will help pay for these events in perpetuity.

But here's the key. The level of city funding depends on parade attendance figures. The more folks on the sidewalk, the more money for the parade. If a parade eclipses the 400,000 attendee threshold, it qualifies for the maximum amount of money available to civic parades. The Sikhs and the Chinese didn't come close. But according to the Dobrovolny report, the Pride Parade attracts "crowds close to half a million people."

Cha-ching.

Now taxpayers will provide up to $50,000 for "city services related specifically" to the Pride Parade. Policing, sanitation and such. The Pride Society, the non-profit in charge of the Pride Parade, will receive up to $20,000 for "planning support" and $10,000 for a "green parade initiative." Not bad for an organization that already cashes big sponsorship cheques from corporations such as TD and Telus.

Considering the pivotal role parade attendance figures play in the public funding process, the obvious question arises: Where did Dobrovolny, and by extension, city council obtain their Pride Parade attendance figures?"

Good question indeed.


Where Do The Crowd Figures Come From ?

The official answer from the City Council is that the figures came from attendance figures from previous years, the applicant (the Vancouver Pride Society) and the Police.

But, as Mark Hasiuk discovered:

• "attendance figures from previous years" and "the applicant" simply mean that the figures came from the Vancouver Pride Society;
• the Police have never kept any estimates of crowd figures for Pride.  In fact, the Police explicitly said the figures would come from the Vancouver Pride Society.

It would appear that the Vancouver Pride Society has considerable discretion in estimating crowd support for the Pride Parade. Anything less than 400,000 people (which other parades were NOT able to match) and full funding would be denied.  So, in 2010, they claimed crowd figures of 700,000; in 2013, they promoted a figure of  650,000 people (Hasiuk points out that would be 1/4 of the population of Metro Vancouver's 2.4 million people........)


Mathematical Calculations of Crowd Figures

Hasiuk enlisted the help of a Maths Teacher to estimate crowd figures for the 2010 Pride Parade Route, which was the same route used for the 2013 Parade:

"According to Robinson's calculations, considering the route length (2.7 kilometres), a crowd of 700,000 would be packed 47 deep, shoulder-to-shoulder, on both sides of the route from start to finish, a physical impossibility thanks to sidewalks and storefronts. A crowd of 10 deep, shoulder-to-shoulder, on both sides of the route produces an attendance figure of less than 150,000. Because of the narrow viewing areas, concluded Robinson, particularly on Denman, the 2010 parade likely attracted roughly 90,000 attendees.

Yikes. That kind of estimate would disqualify the Pride Parade from civic status, which, according to the Dobrovolny report, requires an "average attendance of 100,000 or more."

OK..  .it's not clear whether the math  calculations take into account the time spent watching the parade (which lasts about 3 hours), the frequency at which the crowd would build along the route during that time, or whether people are actually moving with the parade and merging with other crowds already there.

There are no doubt other criteria that professional stats and math whizzes could throw into the mix for greater accuracy. And that's the point. Shouldn't the City be demanding estimation analysis with "Good", "Bad" and "Ugly" figures from professionals qualified to make such estimations? After all, Pride Parade is touted as a revenue spinner.

But roughly 90,000 attendees estimated to be at the Pride Parade in 2010 compared to the Pride Society's estimates of 700,000 for that year......??? Whoa........What's going on here........?

The answer is not hard to find.


The Warfare / Welfare Mentality

We make no comment on Hasiuk's specific assertions that the Vancouver Pride Society has forced the city council into submission.

As a general comment based on our observations of life in the West, once individuals and organizations operating in a socialist economy, discover how they can milk the system through enforced political correctness, intimidation, smear and outrage, there's no end to the political favours that can be squeezed. That's how the Warfare / Welfare mentality works.  It very quickly disconnects from analysis or reality.


Comment

1.   We're happy to accept that in the context of Vancouver's small town status - and even smaller village mentality - (we shit with laughter every time we hear the World Class City moniker), the Pride Parade might be a big deal and like any other public event, would bring dollars to the local economy.

2.   We're also happy to accept that a public event like the Vancouver Fireworks, could attract around 700,000 people (or more) to watch it from both sides of English Bay. And that requires street closures and traffic diversions.  But the Pride Parade along a highly limited route "downtown", repeated annually,  we would say at best about 280,000 peeps (and that's including those leaning from the balconies)...........No.......on reflection we think it's much lower, probably around 80,000.

3.   There are 4 obvious omissions from Hasiuk's article:

• whether he attempted a personal interview with Jerry Dobrovolny of Vancouver City Council to clarify how the crowd figure of 500,000 was arrived at;
• whether he contacted Vancouver Pride Society for an explanation as to how their estimates originated. In particular, if in 2010 crowd figures were estimated at 700,000 why were the crowd figures for 2013 "reduced" to 650,000 when Vancouver's population was growing and the alleged popularity of the Pride Parade was increasing?
• what were Vancouver Pride Society's estimates for 2011 and 2012?
• whether he attempted to arrange a meeting between mathematicians, the Vancouver Pride Society and Vancouver City Council to rationally explain and extrapolate historical and current estimates for crowd figures;

4.    Some will allege that Hasiuk has an axe to grind. We didn't get that impression from reading the full article.  He's right in pointing out the reticence to confront issues involving sexuality, money and politics. In  a town like Vancouver where corruption and political correctness are entrenched and endemic (and have been for generations), it's hardly surprising that "sensitive" issues don't get the scrutiny they deserve. It's all about the photo-op, the campaign promises, the harm reduction, the meaningful dialogue, the inclusion of "diversity"...........the result is the distinct impression that the local politicos swallow anything ejaculated into their mouths.

5.  If  Hasiuk's assertions are correct, then  it's laughable that the Vancouver Pride Society appears exempt from meaningful oversight from Vancouver City Council. What for example are "the green parade initiatives"  for which the Society received $10,000.00 ? 

6.   It's also laughable that the police, responsible for crowd control every year have no independent estimations of their own, at the very least for logistical purposes. If there really were 650,000 people watching the Parade, most of central Vancouver would be gridlocked. The police's failure to prepare based on past crowd estimations, would mean they were negligent. The only reason the Police haven't kept crowd estimations of their own was because they took the view that the Parade wasn't such a big deal.

7.   What's surprising is that not even the newspapers (Vancouver Sun or Globe And Mail) questioned such massive estimations of crowd figures, but merely said, "A record crowd of approximately 500,000 people was expected to attend the event".  In other words, they followed the City Council line. We suspect that enforced political correctness meant this was as far as they dared go. See here and here.  We entirely agree with the first paragraph in Hasiuk's article that at this point, journalism became public relations.

8.   The joke is that the newspapers actually fucked the Vancouver Pride Society.  Think about it.........if it's alleged to be a "record crowd of approximately 500,000...." then by definition, that figure could NEVER have been matched in the past 35 years of the Pride Parade in that town - whether by promotional estimation or actual attendance. So it once again, begs the questions where did the Vancouver Pride Society get these figures of 700,000 for 2010 and 650,000 for 2013 AND how was the figure of 500,000 ultimately swallowed by the City Council.......??

9.   Check this out from what we assume is the Vancouver Pride Society for the 2013 Parade. Underlining by FuelMix:

" Attracting crowds of more than 650,000, the Pride Parade is renowned on the international stage among the largest and most successful events in the world in support of LGBTQ communities, with spectator and participants outnumbering the host City’s residents."

10.   If taxpayers are now partially funding the Pride Parade based on unilaterally spewed (and skewed...??) figures, what accounting and auditing oversight mechanisms are in place?  And if not, why not?  What recourse do the main sponsors have to check where and why the money went?

11.  Our series on Gay Vancouver has included reader's descriptions and photographs of the West End ghetto. We can politely say that the urban landscape there is depressing and underwhelming. If, according to the Vancouver Pride Society, 650,000 people were estimated to watch the Parade in 2013, all it means is that 650,000 people would soon find out the actual physical state of the Gay Ghetto. Is that something to brag about.........?
