Scampering through the back lanes of SoHo yesterday, drink in hand (it was 33.8 degrees Celsius and the humidity of a monsoon) FuelMix stumbled across a pile of rubble and realized that Follow Me had gone out of business.

The blue neon signage that advertised the place had gone, the premises were boarded up with a "For Lease" sign pasted on the front door, the phone line was dead and the pile of rubble were its interior fixtures and fittings.

FuelMix doubts whether it will be missed.

Fugly Warnings

One of our friendly GAMs on the street, trotted up to us breathlessly and hissed in annoyance, "the fuckin' saunas are full of ugly guys...!"

"Why...?" said FuelMix feigning complete ignorance as he swiveled his sunglasses up to his head.

"Because of the Lunar New Year Holidays!" exclaimed the throat, "these Mainland Chinese guys are EVERYWHERE....!! and many of them are soooooooo ugly and sooooooo rude......!! For a long time, the saunas here are no fun.....!!......What to do....??!!"

"Which saunas are getting a lot of ugly Mainland Chinese....?" cooed FuelMix

"In Tsim Sha Tsui, Galaxy of course........and now ABC also - too many ugly guys from across the border. Also Alexander, Big Top and Club Houzz in Mong Kok - they come in groups of 3 or 4 - because Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok is where they go shopping a lot.......They like Alexander because it is big.  They always complain so loudly in the other saunas that they are too small.  Why do they complain.....??? How many gay saunas in China.....? Hah...!!"

"What about Hong Kong side?" enquired FuelMix

"Yeah a lot in Action - still "NoAction" - so many there too"

" I see", said FuelMix

"It is just too many"......sighed the GAM, "it is just like invasion......it is NEVER going to stop...." His voice trailed off as he looked away, "this is not Hong Kong anymore......."

Yes! Please continue to post and give reviews. I'm sure there are lurkers out there who read your posts. A year ago if I googled "gay hong kong saunas" your site was ranked on the first page. Now it's no longer appears. Fuck utopia-asia. I got all my info from you and had so much ass and cock at the saunas.

Well....well......well..... what's going on here....??  For the longest time, our blog indeed popped up on the first page of Google's search results, right near or at the top when it came to search terms like:

• "gay hong kong saunas"
• "hong kong gay saunas"
• "gay sauna reviews hong kong"

And the reader's right........the blog has disappeared from Google's search results when we checked pursuant to his e-mail.

Instead, certain "established" gay sites suddenly show up touting "their" sauna reviews.  When we glanced at them, we became intensely suspicious of some of those "reviews".

 

We can only assume that our independent and dynamically updated reviews were powerful, correct and **ahem** influential that some people felt threatened, or they paid Google to increase their search ranking visibility, or Google changed its secret algorithm as to how search rankings are displayed - or all three.

Whilst we're pissed off at our "Google disappearance", we're also intensely flattered at the impact of our unabashed Hong Kong gay sauna reviews. 

 

Apparently, it's not the first time that certain websites have inexplicably disappeared from Google's search results.

We'll leave it to our readers to decide if we've added value with our gay sauna reviews and other writings. If you'd like to come to our assistance via your social media contacts, we'd encourage it.

Frustrations And Trends

Hi FuelMix

Lately I've had some lousy experiences in the saunas around town and thought I'd send you an update.

1.  Galaxy

Still as grubby as ever with even more Mainland Chinese guys. This is definitely not a place for the goodlooking or the hardbodied.  Age wise seems to be 30s and up.  Don't get me wrong I have nothing against older guys - it's just Galaxy gets them in such huge amounts and they're not even good looking.  To use your phrase they're FUGLY. (Although I agree Fugly can come in all ages too).

The place gets packed every evening between 3pm - 9pm, sometimes so packed you can't even move in the dark areas.  But there's nobody hot to play with!


2.  ABC

So out of desperation I went to ABC across the street.  OK the GAMs are marginally better looking - but only just.  But they come with waaaay too much attitude and that's a real turn off.  There's a lot of Stand And Model there.

It does get a variety of nationalities and while I was there, I saw 5 white guys who seemed to be in their 30s.  They were OK to look at, and as you earlier said in your blog, they looked like standard Central Escalator clientele.  Some of the white guys hooked up with each other, others tried to hook up with the GAMs.

Again, pretty disappointing and that pop/dance radio station they play is just awful.  Hadn't been to ABC for a while and just can't figure this place out.


3.  Follow Me

I was curious to see what this place was all about since you slammed it in your reviews. I went early in the week around 7pm. Whoa.......now I know why you slammed it......  There were just 4 GAMs there.  One had a nice tanned muscular body but he was so full of himself he told me and the others not to sit near him !!

I left after 20 minutes. 


4.  QQ Fitness

I hadn't been there for ages, must have been over a year ago so dropped in on a Thursday evening about 6:45pm  to check it out.  About 10 people all GAMs.  There was one very attractive brown guy maybe Pakistani or something with a really muscular body.  The other GAMs were circling him a lot and touching him as he walked by.  But that was it.  I could see wedding rings on the GAM's fingers so maybe that had something to do with it. The hottie didn't stay long.

Even though there were 10 people there, there was not much of a vibe. It's open 24 hours but not sure whether it actually gets hot guys who show up regularly.  Won't be going back there for ages.


5.  Gateway

I hadn't been to Gateway in over 3 years and after my experience at QQ decided to drop in.  I thought it couldn't get any worse.  I was wrong.............There was just me in a towel.  

A few minutes later this GAM with a US accent shows up. He opened his locker but remained fully dressed and then sat in front of one of the computers checking out the Mainland Chinese escorts on gayhk.com

OMG........The place was deserted.  Spotless and immaculate but virtually empty.  The staff were eating cookies and watching TV even though the place is supposed to be open till 1 a.m.

I left after about 30 minutes.


6.   The Great

This is the 24 hour one in Tsim Sha Tsui on Austin Road.  What a fuckin' disaster even at the end of the week after work. 3 GAM twinks, one in the TV lounge yapping on his phone, the other 2 vibrating in the massage chairs.  The place was so dead they'd even turned of the porn in the private rooms.  I'm thinking "WTF.....?"

The only exciting thing there is the jacuzzi.  You can play with the controls.

So there you have it, pretty lousy experience all around. Maybe I just picked the shitty ones...??

Gateway and ABC have nice premises and some people actually think The Great is nicely decorated too.

But by and large, the clientele that would show up at your 6 choices would be Fugly or attitudinal -  or in the case of Gateway, non-existent.  (And that's been an historical observation with Gateway - just ask any fag around town).  As for Follow Me, the less said the better.

Underneath your frustration there's a more serious point.......just what IS showing up at the saunas these days......?

The Trends

1.   More and more fugly married men for starters and not just GAMs. You're definitely not the only one to notice wedding bands on pudgy fingers.

2.   Then there's the Mainland Chinese infestation of Very Rich Megacity Anecdotally, many of these "recreationally gay" Mainland Chinese are married and word gets around that Galaxy is the place to go.

3.   Who hasn't noticed the expatriate Indian and Pakistanis from the UK and South Asia ?  They're showing up at ABC, Action, Alexander, Big Top, CE and Galaxy. This trend kicked in over 2 years ago and is set to increase.  Are they Out to their chauvinistic conservative families or their soon-to-be-arranged wives.....? Nah.....

4.   Expect more ex-European Union types falling over themselves to get here.

5.   Noticed the number of Russian tourists wandering the streets of Very Rich Megacity? Everything gay is illegal in Russia.  Here's a prediction........it's only a matter of time before Russian guys start showing up at the gay saunas in VRM.  You read it here first.  This blog is already being read in Russia.

6.   FuelMix is still waiting for the majority of his readers to twig that the gay sauna reviews are as anthropological as they are anatomical.

"Magnetic Hot Spots"

Whilst there's no shortage of venues, there is a shortage of "magnetic hot spots".  Sure, it's well known that ABC gets white guys but it's also well known that they're similarl to or in many cases, the same people, who show up at Central Escalator.  Are they hot...?  Nope.

Even at the "magnetic hot spots" circuit of saunas, one sees the same faces and muscular bodies ad nauseam. And it doesn't matter how long the gap has been since you last dropped into the place. It's Deja vu caught in a loop of attitude and discount entry.  Somebody once remarked that if you go into a sauna Dark Room and everbody knows your name, you're over-exposed.

The fag mantra used to be, "So many men, so little time".

FuelMix suggests, "So many men, so little choice".

Hi FuelMix

I went to Follow Me on a Friday afternoon about 5pm.  Hadn't been there for a very long time and I thought well Fridays after work might attract a crowd. Not sure how to put this but counting me there were 3 people. One was chain smoking upstairs. The other was a Mainland Chinese who was on his mobile phone having a loud argument with somebody.

Stayed about 30 minutes before feeling I was going nuts with boredom. I actually fled to Central Escalator knowing fully well what I'd find there.

I hear that Follow Me is "supposed to get busy" on Friday nights and Saturday nights.  Is this true?

Well if it is, no reader has yet come forward with a credible report for publication.  Its alleged busy times are either one of the best kept fag secrets in town, or a total urban myth.

Hi FuelMIx

Went there twice during September, both times mid-week late afternoon.  Both times including me, there were 4 guys there - all GAMs. Without saying that I am superior the 3 other GAMs were very average looking.  There was no action and all sat there smoking.  I stayed maybe one and a half hours each time and then left.  Nobody else came in.

Anyway the Japanese bukkake gay porn was hot.

The staff guy gave me a free entry card for next time.  He says best times to come are Fridays from 9pm onwards (they go overnite) and Saturdays from 6pm onwards (they also go overnite).  He also said that white gay men come on those times.

I don't know if he is speaking truth since the place was so empty when I was there.  The place is very small however.

Follow Me's Pricing Policy

I was very interested to read the posts about gay sauna pricing in HK and thought I'd mention my experience on telephoning Follow Me yesterday [23 May 2012].  When I asked the price, he hesitated and then said HK$90.  I was puzzled because I had looked at their website and couldn't find that price.  So I asked again and he hesitated a second time before saying HK90.  I got suspicious and felt I was being ripped off.  

I then asked if there were a lot of people there at the moment and he gushed and said there were lots.  So I asked how many.  At first he wouldn't say and I asked again.  He hesitated and after an awkward pause said.....there were 2.  I didn't show up there at all and  opted for Central Escalator which of course was a social disaster but at least I knew exactly what I'd be charged i.e. HK$120 and there were some signs of life. 

I think it's healthy for people to state their pricing experience at the saunas around town.

Dropped into this joint (coz it's right across the alley from Pure Fitness in SoHo and some hot guys go to that gym right?  So I'm thinking hmmm meybee they need some post workout fun....) Boy what a disappointment.  Your  reviews of this place are correct except that they now added a bunch of curtains to section off the areas.


Downstairs is clean enough.  But the upstairs playrooms are really small and grubby.  So is the only toilet and shower with mold growing on the shower curtain.  Upstairs dark area gives off a real icky vibe.  Was trying to play with one guy but neither of us wanted to lie down on the grubby mattress so called it off.


Wuz only 5 guys there all GAMs watching Japanese porn. They said that on Friday nites and Saturday nites guys from the clubs drop in late.  Very disappointing experience so went to My Way Platinum in Wanchai instead.  Had a better time there.

FuelMix says:  Thanks.  Hard to know what to make of Follow Me "Sauna". Doesn't have a dry sauna or a steam room and FuelMix has seen and heard about the playroom grubbiness.  Location is potentially excellent as you pointed out, but a total waste of space.  FuelMix has heard about the Friday and Saturday late nite drop ins from the clubs as well as rumours of "muscleboys" there.  Whatever..........frankly he doesn't believe it.  There are other places in town to get action.

The thing that quirks FuelMix is why Central Escalator isn't open 24 hours Friday and Saturdays?  It's right there too..........

A few months ago, FuelMix wrote that this place used to be Prince House and had changed its name to Follow Me. Given the review previously given to this place, FuelMix said he couldn't be bothered to go and check it out under its new incarnation.

Having finished some errands in the vicinity, FuelMix became aware that he was being cruised by an interesting looking dude. Cutting to the chase, the fag offered to pay the admission charge to this joint for the privilege of servicing FuelMix. It was the closest sauna, fag was horny and FuelMix thought, "OK, why not? I'll shut my eyes and think of the blog".

The place has been tidied up and tarted up - a tad. Sensibly, they've demolished the crappy partitions downstairs in an attempt to open up what is still a small and pokey space.

Get buzzed in and step into what is now the lounge, with a large flat screen TV (showing Jap gay porn), sofa, coffee table and internet station (for 1). Do a sharp U turn and head down a small passageway into a bank of lockers, with mirror and armchair and some space. It's a discreet space to undress and also to have hot sex with a guy who's just come in, or who can't make up his mind whether to leave.

Truth be told, the downstairs area is a definite improvement, almost tasteful - heck they've even put in new flooring that brightens up the space. And you can walk barefoot without your feet sticking.

Upstairs is a minor improvement. There's a steep flight of stairs to negotiate and another small TV lounge with a large screen. Tall guys will have trouble standing upright as the upstairs ceiling height is very low.

Upstairs, behind beaded curtains, they've added a communal playroom, with a small screen TV, (4 people could just play in there) mats and prop-up cushions, as well as a small, tight cruising corridor.

The 3 original playrooms are still there and are a disaster. Small, pokey, drafty and good luck finding the light switch. They come equipped with kleenex, condoms and lube.

Check their website to see what the joint now looks like.

* Very discreet location in the corner of 2 backstreet lanes;
* If you've got a buddy to play with and couldn't care about the cramped and totally airless space, then OK;
* Suitable for deeply closeted cases;
* Frequented by those who prefer a much quieter vibe;
* Some potential for group action - but you may have to bring your own group;
* Some attempt at re-decoration;
* Cheap-ish to get in, about HK$80.00, depending on day of week
* Overnite Friday and Saturday;

Cons
* Can be dead, or deadly quiet;
* Only occaisonal hotties;
* Hanky sized towels
* Sitting bare assed on cheap leather sofa or on cum stained cloth sofa upstairs, not the best idea;
* Not the first choice for a place to play;
* IT'S NOT A FUCKIN' SAUNA OK?? WHY THE HELL DO THEY CALL IT THAT?? IT'S A FUCKIN' PLAY SPACE...THERE AIN'T NO STEAM ROOM OR SAUNA....IT'S A FUCKIN' PLAY SPACE AND A LITTLE POKEY ONE AT THAT....

Follow Me Sauna

Used to be known as Prince House and it was not a sauna - just a cramped gay play space which most of the time, was dead. Located in a back lane in Very Rich Megacity's SoHo area, if anybody was there, they weren't good looking at all - mainly office chink fags loaded with attitude, looking to escape the grind for a couple of hours by smoking and watching Jap porn.

FuelMix is aware that highly closeted, ugly, married white guys would show up. It's mid-way between their office in Central and their pad in the Mid-Levels with the wife and the 2.5 kids.

If this place has been re-named and now claims to be a sauna, somebody else can go check it out and report here.

Prince House

OK, straight up, this place is an unmitigated disaster. Tucked away in a back lane in the heart of Very Rich Megacity's SOHO area, you'd think this place would be rocking with sexed up studs. But nooo.................it's deserted. And FuelMix should know. In the interests of blog research, he went back several times.

For starters, the place is not a fully fledged gay sauna. It's a gay play space - and not a good one either. It's tiny and very cramped. And have fun negotiating the near-vertical staircase to get to the lockers, a few play rooms and a so-called video room showing mainly Jap porn. And dudes about 6'2" won't be able to stand upright in the upstairs area.

The place just reeks of "dead". The guys that do show up, are not good looking and mainly office worker chinks.

Downstairs, there are play rooms big enough for groups and 2 people can close them off. The last time FuelMix was there, counting himself, there were 2 other fags. 3 hours later, nobody else had shown up.

It's just wasted potential. Watch out for the "discount coupons" the front desk hands out. They have some restrictions that are not spelt out. All notices are in chink. Surprising really, coz the SOHO area is full of expatriate professionals.

This is one place that should just be left to go out of business. The front desk knows the place is dead. But they won't say anything to you and just take your cash.
