Up Front

Here in Very Rich Megacity, it's rare to see a Craigslist ad in the M2M section that looks barely credible - but now and again one comes along.....(underlining, highlighting and bold print by FuelMix):

sub needs hard session - m4m (Hong Kong island)

body : average   height : 6'0" (182cm)
age: 49
Hi

I am a straight man but periodically I go through times when I just need to be sexually abused by dominant alpha males without any pity or conscience.

You will need to humiliate me, tie me up, beat me (no limits), fuck me (ass and face). Fisting, golden showers, brown showers welcome. Couples/groups welcome.

I am drug free but I have done this before so no idea if I am disease free, bare back welcome at your own risk. If you have a disease, bare back is still welcome - come and see if you can infect me.

I will host in Mingle Place Eden or come to you

FuelMix says:

1.   We make no comment on his sexual preferences but we do acknowledge his apparent honesty on his health status.  He says upfront that he doesn't have a clue - and then goes on to effectively dare anyone to infect themselves or, if they might be health compromised, to infect him.  We'll let others judge the morality of his request but there's no denying the clarity of his ad.  We admit that we blinked a couple of times on reading the penultimate paragraph.

2.  Oh....and the Mingle Place At The Eden...??  It's a high end Luuv Hotel with branches all over town.  Out of curiosity we Googled them and discovered they rent out their rooms in 2 or 3-hour blocks.  Click on the "Rooms" Tab and you'll discover that ALL rooms (from Deluxe to Super VIP) come with 2 FREE (their capitals not ours) condoms.

Old School

Ask any fag with experience and they’ll say that the keys to successful cruising on the street, mall, locker room, toilet, bar, sauna or wherever, lies in 3 factors: confidence, body language and the look.

To which FuelMix would add a 4th factor: hotness.

Cruising in public, however furtive, is actually a brazen act of public defiance liable to criminal charges of indecency or loitering with intent or soliciting. But this post isn’t about the criminality of cruising. It's about the convergence of the 4 factors listed above and the head-on collision with so-called "online cruising".

Real-time  face to face cruising requires skill, persistence, finesse and a certain skill to determine compatibility. Cruising is in the other guy’s face and everything’s on view. It’s also awfully hard on the feet.

So, along comes the Web, the fag chat rooms, the apps: Grindr/Jack'd/Scruff/Growlr. Theoretically hookups should happen with a mouse click or a swipe. Pull up a chair, lie on the bed, arrange a lunch time quickie, post a profile, a pic, say what you’re into, what you’re looking for, when you wanna meet and bang!!…the trick shows up like a pizza delivery.  Exactly what you ordered.  All smiles, good manners,clean cut, freshly showered, smelling of Tide, high-priced body wash and Ozone.

Not so fast.......

1.  The attitude of the fag claiming to cruise online is quite different to the fag’s attitude whilst cruising on the street, yet the professed desired result is the same.

This is a crucial point because it shows a marked divergence in strategy which leads to zero, or infuriating, or an utterly disastrous online result.

2.  The fag’s propensity for lying (an ingrained and inbred characteristic that first started as a survival method in childhood to cover up the fact that he knew he was “different”) shows up in all its glory online. Virtually every fag with an ISP has had at least a dozen experiences with online fag flakes. That’s not to say that 2 fags won’t lie to each other when they’re cruising on the street, but since cruising in those circumstances is mutually visible, the most they can lie about is their age, drug use and health status. Online, there’s no shortage of what they can fabricate. Going digital, is inherently nefarious.

3.  The truth is that fag chat rooms are NOT a place to hook up. They are merely a place to loiter (without threat of criminality), waste time, rabble rouse, insult, get insulted, get angry, get pissed off and log off. In fact, very little chat actually goes on in the public rooms. Conversation is cursory, pretending to be banter. At other times it’s virtually non-existent.

4.  If cruising on the street is supposed to be anonymous, chat rooms are not. Every key stroke can be traced. The notion of cruising for anonymous sex shatters right there. (We are prepared to accept that with surveillance cameras installed all over the streets and parks in the West - in the fight against terrorism of course, - cruising on the street is not that anonymous either).

5.  In the real world, cruising is a silent, predatory action marked by repeatedly returning to the same spot (or series of spots in a given area) in search of action. Online, the chat room is a crypt with a revolving door, names spinning in and out leapfrogging to the top of the newly arrived list. All the while, they’re hoping for an acknowledgement or a flicker of interest. Most of the time they get none. It’s the cyber equivalent of “stand and model”. The silence can be deafening.

6.  In the real world, when no fish bites, you just walk, take the bus, hail a cab, hop on the subway and get the hell out of there plotting to return at some later date. In cyber, fags leave their profile in the chat room for days at a time. It’s a sure sign they’re desperate. It reminds FuelMix of a particularly notorious fag who would take up residence in a certain public toilet cubicle for hours. He’d bring porn, sandwiches and coffee in a thermos flask. It was jaw-dropping in its hilarity and deeply pathetic. It was also the only public toilet to have the aroma of freshly roasted Arabica beans and piss.

7.  So why have fags bought into this notion that chat room cruising is easy and fun? Probably because it appears to be the quickest way to see profiles and (sometimes for a fee), pictures of dudes. That’s really the hook – the curiosity factor. Every fag in his heart knows that right now he’s just too fuckin’ lazy to get dressed and go to the other side of town to actually meet the dude, or he’s still at work, or it’s late, or he’s surfing during class, or still high, or not even in the same city. In the meantime, why not toy with that apparent jock in the same way as a kitten toys with a ball of wool? He can be vague, tantalizingly nebulous, complimentary and even carry on a conversation…....hell, we all lie. What’s the harm?

8.  That ain’t cruising by any definition.

9.  Face it. If the guy cruised on the street is more interested in oratory than oral sex, walk.

10.  True cruising has the briefest of conversations, the shortest, sharpest answers to the right questions and a snap decision. Even getting to and finding a place to play is done in silence or only occasional conversation. True cruising on the street or anywhere else in real time, is characterized by libido and instant lust, a shared commitment to get it done and get it done right.

Yeah, it's Old School.  And it still fuckin' works.

What Is PrEP.....? 4

COMPLETED 30 DECEMBER 2016

Q: What is PrEP?
A: ‘PrEP’ stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, an anti-HIV medication that can help stop HIV-negative people from getting infected by HIV even if they are exposed to HIV. Using the drugs Truvada (tenofovir and emtricitabine formulate) as its components, the medicine can prevent HIV from making new virus as it enters the body and keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection. Please note that PrEP is not a vaccine that produces HIV antibody in the body, and it needs to be used consistently over time to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV. Taking one pill before high risk sex will not protect you.

Q: Is PrEP effective in preventing HIV?
A: Yes if used properly. PrEP is proved to be effective in reducing the risk of acquiring HIV through sex when used consistently with strict adherence. According to the iPrEx clinical study by the US Department of Health and Human Services in 2011, the risk of HIV acquisition was reduced by as much as 96%-99% (CI: 86%-100%) among men who have sex with men (MSM) who adhered well to PrEP. Studies show that daily doses of PrEP also reduced HIV transmission among heterosexual serodiscordant couples (in which one partner is infected with HIV and the other is not) by 75%.

Please note that the effectiveness of PrEP is highly contingent on the degree of drug adherence of the user. One needs to adhere strictly to the drug regimen to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV.
AIDS Concern is advocating for PrEP to become available in Hong Kong for people at high risk of HIV and in particular for demonstration projects in Hong Kong. Please click here for AIDS Concern’s advocacy position.

Q: Am I suitable for this medication? Do I need to use condoms as well?
A: The USA Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommend PrEP for people who are HIV-negative and at substantial risk for HIV infection. The World Health Organisation recommends that PrEP should be one additional option for HIV prevention, but did not recommend it to be a substitute for condoms. Although PrEP is already highly effective in preventing HIV infections, there are by far a few reported cases where people who adhere to PrEP have become HIV positive. It should be noted that PrEP is a biomedical intervention measure, and it may have limitations in preventing HIV-virus that are already resistant to Truvada. Therefore, people using PrEP should also continue using condoms when having sex to ensure low risk of HIV and also other sexually-transmitted diseases. People who take PrEP should also have HIV and STI testing every 3 months and receive close monitoring of their medication adherence and risk behaviors regularly.

Q: Does PrEP have side-effects?
A: Side effects vary from person to person. Short term side-effects include headaches, weight loss, diarrhoea, nausea, and fatigue. Long-term side effects such as kidney dysfunction and decreased bone mineral density do affect a very small proportion of PrEP users. This is why medical supervision and follow up tests are important.

In PrEP studies, use of tenofovir has been associated with small decreases in key measures of kidney function (creatinine clearance and glomerular filtration rate, GFR) and 0.4-1.5% loss in bone mineral density, affecting up to 2% of participants. However, most of their renal function and bone mineral density was also found to have returned to the baseline level after withdrawing PrEP use.
PrEP users are advised to have their health conditions continuously monitored when taking PrEP, and consult their doctors when necessary.

Q: Is there a possibility of developing drug resistance?
A: As Truvada is also commonly used in antiretroviral treatment for HIV positive people, some people are worried that PrEP users would develop drug resistance to Truvada which could make HIV treatment ineffective if they become HIV-positive in the future.

Among the 9222 users who have taken on PrEP in trials, only 11 people developed FTC or TDF-resistant HIV infection (n=0.1%), and it occurred mainly among people who were already acutely infected with HIV before initiating PrEP. In other words, if PrEP users do not adhere well to the drug regimen and engage in high risk behavior at the same time, unrecognized and acute HIV infection would expose them to the risk of developing drug resistance when they continue on taking PrEP.

In order to avoid the risk of developing drug resistance, PrEP users should adhere strictly to the drug regimen suggested by the doctor, and have initial and regular HIV testing to be consistently aware of their HIV status.

Q: How can I use PrEP to effectively prevent HIV?
A: You should take PrEP daily—take one pill of Truvada each day consistently. It takes 7-20 days for the different body parts to build up the drug concentration to prevent HIV depending on what type of sexual intercourse you are having.

Some people are taking PrEP before and after sex. This approach needs to be handled carefully as it takes time for the drug to get to an optimal protection level for your body. People considering this approach should discuss it seriously with their doctor.

Q: Is PrEP available in Hong Kong?
A: PrEP is not yet available in the public health system in Hong Kong. Some private doctors are prescribing but the cost is quite high, which is priced at approximately $8000 to $10000 a month. If you want to get PrEP privately please contact AIDS Concern by telephoning 2898 4411 so that we can advise you on possible clinics.

AIDS Concern is advocating for PrEP to become available through the public health system. Other options are to access PrEP by visiting the Red Cross clinic in Bangkok. However, we strongly recommend you read the information about these options later in this information sheet before considering either of those options. Getting medication like PrEP without medical supervision can be dangerous for your health.

Q: Some people are going to Thailand to get PrEP. Is this a good idea?
A: There are a number of providers in Thailand advertising PrEP. However, if you want to access PrEP it is important that you do so from a legitimate supplier where you get the necessary medical checks to ensure that you are safe to take the medication. One reputable supplier is the Thai Red Cross Research Centre which has a Prep-30 project. Another clinic which provides PrEP is Sathorn International Clinic. This does require you to go to Bangkok. Please see the links here if you would like to learn more:

It should be noted that the importation of pharmaceutical products and medicine are controlled under the Import and Export Ordinance (Cap. 60), thus must be covered by a license issued by Department of Health under delegated authority of the Director-General of Trade and Industry Department. Pharmaceutical products and medicines imported in the personal baggage of a person entering Hong Kong and which are accompanied by him and in a reasonable quantity for his personal use may be exempted from licensing requirement. People who are going overseas to get access to PrEP are therefore strongly advised to keep a medical certificate provided by the prescribing doctor with themselves when they have to bring PrEP to Hong Kong for personal use.

You may call the Drug Office of Department of Health (Tel.: 2319 8460) for enquiries relating to import/export of pharmaceutical products and medicine or Customs and Excise Department (Tel.: 2815 7711) for general enquiry on Customs clearance.

Q: I would like to buy PrEP from the internet. Is this a good idea?
A: Buying medication over the internet is a bad idea unless you can be sure that the supplier is legitimate. Otherwise there is a risk that you may be given fake pills that do not work or which cause you harm. It is also important that anyone being prescribed PrEP has medical supervision for this to happen.

Q: I’ve decided to take PrEP. What do I need to pay heed to?
A: If you do decide to take PrEP, please remember these 3 crucial factors:

– When you start using PrEP, you must absolutely be sure that you do not have HIV to avoid the risk of drug resistance. Get tested at AIDS Concern or Social Hygiene Clinic for free. You may also go to a private clinic for testing;
– Have your blood checked first to ensure that your kidney and liver functions are alright; and
– Get tested every 3 months for HIV and other STIs, and have your kidney and liver functions regularly monitored through your doctor.

What Is PrEP...? 3

4.  Gay Men Bragging In The Sauna That They're On PrEP

FuelMix at the sauna here in Very Rich Megacity, chatting to a 20-something Thai MuscleBoy visiting town for a few days:

TMB:  ...I shouldn't keep doing this...I keep telling myself to stop...but it never works

FM:  Stop doing what..?

TMB:  Fucking bareback...I just love it!! I can't stop..!!

FM:  How long you in town for?

TMB:  3 days....I've spent it in different saunas, 2 in a day.  I've been to Hutong twice, Big Top twice, My Way once and now this one. So yeah...6 saunas in 3 days.  I leave early tomorrow morning, so I'll probably spend the night here and sleep on the plane.

FM:  How many guys have you fucked bareback over the last 3 days..?

TMB:  Well, I got action about 4 times in each sauna, each time I showed up, so...about 17 so far plus the two I fucked bareback at this place.  I'll be hanging here overnight, so I'll probably fuck another 2 or 3.  Maybe 20 guys in 3 days...something like that.

FM:  That's impressive barebacking.  I noticed you like showing off to a crowd while you're fucking...

TMB:  Yeah...just love showing off my body... I mean I work out in the gym so yeah, I like to show it off..... I was in Singapore, Pattaya and Bangkok on this trip, before I came to Hong Kong.  Then I head home to Canada.

FM:  Did you hit the saunas in those cities too..?

TMB:  That's all I did!![grins]...3 or 4 days in each place, sometimes over 12 hours in the sauna...fucking bareback. I'm guessing maybe I fucked 8 to 10 guys each day.  It's much easier to get action in the saunas in Bangkok, Pattaya and Singapore then it is here.  Hong Kong guys have too much shitty attitude.

FM:  So...that would be about 100 guys you fucked bareback over the last 10 days before you dropped into Hong Kong - PLUS the 2 you've fucked here so far...PLUS another 2 or 3 that you might do overnight....that would be about 105 guys bareback in 14 days...??!!

TMB:  Ya...pretty amazing  huh..?  I'm not bullshitting. I'm addicted to barebacking!!  I got TONS of bareback group action in Bangkok, Pattaya and Singapore. And I'm a Top and there's no shortage of guys wanting to be fucked.

FM:  You're not worried about your health..?

TMB:  Nah...I'm protected...I use PrEP you know.  Prevents me getting HIV.

FM:  Oh...did you get it by prescription in Canada..?

TMB:  Nah....I am from Thailand. It is easier for me to go there because buying PrEP in Thailand is a lot cheaper.  I take a prescription from my doctor in Canada and can get it in Bangkok and some other cities in Thailand.  I can get a 3 month prescription that I take daily.  I have a doctor in Thailand and in Canada and get tested in both places.  But Thailand is a lot cheaper so I prefer to buy there.

FM:  What about bringing the PrEP you bought in Thailand back into Canada?  Any problems at the airport..?

TMB:  Nah...because I am carrying the doctors' prescriptions.  They ask questions and I show them. They don't hassle me.

FM:   So you take one PrEP once a day and fuck bareback at every sauna you hit.  But you're fucking a lot of guys bareback...even if you're on PrEP, you're not even a little worried that your barebacking is out of control..?

TMB:  I'm totally addicted to barebacking.  Sometimes I worry for a little while after I've fucked a cute guy in the sauna....and then I see another cute guy wandering around and I'm fucking him, coming in his ass or mouth....I dunno.....maybe I fuck too much.....I can't help myself....I try and cut it down.....I just can't.

FM:  PrEP may protect you against HIV, but it doesn't protect you against other infections like Syphilis or Chlamydia or Gonorrhea...

TMB:  Yeah I know.....I've had that stuff several times...fuck...hurts like hell..!!

FM:  So...you could have taken PrEP plus antibiotics for a sexual infection at the same time..?

TMB:  Yeah...and Viagra.  When the infection finishes, I take PrEP and Viagra daily.  I am really into multiple barebacking...to me a hard body and a hard cock... it's just awesome...but maybe later I will cut it back...I dunno

FM:  I'm guessing the Viagra is from Thailand as well

TMB:  [grins]...yeah, everything is cheaper in Thailand

4.  Gay Men Bragging About PrEP In The Saunas

3.  Gay Men Announcing Their PrEP Use Online

1.   Over the last few months, here in Very Rich Megacity, (and we suspect elsewhere in Western cities with high concentrations of gay men) we've spotted online profiles on Craigslist, chatrooms, escort sites and phone apps where guys seeking M2M hookups gave their stats, a pic and a statement that they were - and are - on PrEP.

2.   In several cases the guys have gone further by announcing when they were last checked for STD's (Sexually Transmitted Diseases), their current STD, status - AND that they have their latest STD certificate which they are prepared to show. (In some cases, demanding reciprocal disclosure).

3.   Let's be more precise and put it into context.  The hookup ads that we saw were from Western tourists visiting Very Rich Megacity.  They would have obtained PrEP by prescription from doctors in their home countries.

4.   Unless we've missed something, whilst PrEP has been available in Very Rich Megacity since 2014, as at May 2016, PrEP is only available by prescription in private clinics - at a cost of HK$8,500.00 - HK$10,000.00 (US1,080.00 and up) for one month's supply.  The cost is not covered by government subsidy and is not covered by private medical insurance.   That explains why it isn't the local GAMs mentioning PrEP in their online profiles.  They can't afford it. Period.

5.   Let's put it into context again.  In this city, buying a slice of Viagra (under the counter without a prescription) costs about HK$300.00.  Cut it in half and you can get double the mileage.

2.  All The Right Buzz Words...

(underlining and bold print by FuelMix):

"A once a day pill that keeps you HIV negative

Why PrEP?

PrEP allows guys to be in control of their HIV status.  Control means more confidence all round.

PrEP provides around the clock protection against HIV.  When you take PrEP once a day, you are always protected.

PrEP relieves stress and anxiety that can be associated with sex.  When you're with that special guy, PrEP allows you to connect and be in the moment.

Neg or Poz, we all share responsibility for HIV prevention.  With PrEP negative guys have an additional tool that they can use to proactively be in control of their HIV status.  When PrEP is in the equation, positive guys can be confident that their partners are well protected."

Gay Blackmail In Hong Kong 5

Received from a reader today (underlining by FuelMix):

Some valuable observations and thoughts in this series of posts. I always hide my kitchen knife (the most dangerous item in my room) when I go out, because I might bring someone back. I usually leave my wallet with a counted small amount of money, let's say 9 x 100 Baht notes, in my room with my guest while I shower alone, and after our encounter count again.
"Why The Gay Saunas Win Most Of The Time " deserves a separate post. Two additional items:
Customers don't use cosmetics in a sauna. Cosmetics is a turn-off for me. I once had a boy who would get up in the morning and then spend half an hour in the bathroom. Means I have to wait half an hour for sex, and then lick and kiss all this stuff off his skin.
There is little talk in saunas. When I observe Thai boys in gay discos in Bangkok, I am often put off by their foul language.
Unfortunately, for me there is a list of negatives as long, but still saunas beat disco or online.

FuelMix says:
  1. OK, OK...we'll republish "Why Gay Saunas Win Most Of The Time" as a separate post.
  2. You haven't witnessed our local Chinese boys and their cosmetics ritual in the saunas have you..?? **snicker**

Gay Blackmail In Hong Kong 4

9.  When A Blackmail Threat Arrives
10. Epilogue By FuelMix

9.   When A Blackmail Threat Arrives
Courtesy of the Reader who submitted this story (with extensive additions by FuelMix)

1.  Breathe.......Just Breathe........

2.  Think Calmly, Take Your Time:

  • This is where you must weigh the pros and cons of the Blackmail threat;
  • How true is the story on which the Blackmail threat is based..?
  • Replay all the events carefully in your mind (or better still, make notes of them) - from the time you first made contact with the guy online or via an app, to what happened sexually, to when he left.  What was actually said and done..?
  •  Look at the online/app correspondence hard.  Is there any ambiguity....? On whose part..?
  • Just how strong is his case for blackmail..?
  • Exactly where did you slip up to innocently provide him with information that he's now using against you..?
  • At which points can you attack his story..?

3.  What Is/Are The Threatened Consequence(s) Of The Blackmail?
  • Is it a threat to go to the Police if you don't pay..?
  • Is it a threat to expose you online by name, pics, address, email and phone number..?
  • Is it a threat to expose you to your employers..?
  • Are your employers homophobic or gay or gay-friendly..?
  • Is it a threat to expose to you to your wife, GF, BF or friends..?
  • All of the above..?

4.  Can You Confidentially Talk To Someone About This And Get Feedback Before Responding To The Blackmail Threat..?  Or Do You Want To Deal With This Alone..?
  • Is your employer gay or gay friendly to understand that Blackmail threats happen..?
  • Would you be comfortable discussing what happened with a friend or employer..?
  • What about a gay counseling hotline where you can talk anonymously and get their feedback..?

5.  Can You Extract Information From Or About The Blackmailer To Make Him Think Twice..? Can You Make Him Fear You..?
  • Should you go ahead and release the information about him first..?
  • That might buy you more time to develop your strategy

6.  Check Your Fear Level
  • The higher the level of fear you display, the higher his price will go;
  • If his story is better than yours on the facts, would it be better for you to pay up now and move on..?
  • What might be the future consequences if you paid him..?  Would he come back for more..?
  • If his story is better than yours on the facts, can you still negotiate the amount he's demanding..?
  • If your story is better than his, can you stand by it and start wearing him down until he abandons his blackmail attempt..?  Chances are he's also scamming other people at the same time.  If he senses that you're not afraid and wasting his time by fighting back, he'll disappear.

7.  Do You Want To Go To The Police First..?
  • Are you comfortable with that..?
  • You would be able to discover whether this guy was a serial blackmailer against whom there were convictions and police reports;
  • Will your story stand up..?
  • Can you handle the Police questions without throwing a hissy fit or acting like a screaming fag..?
  • Do you have the guts to press charges if your story is strong..?
  • Can you spare the time..?
  • Can you handle the publicity if it goes to Court..?
  • Could you handle the professional or personal repercussions..?

8.  Do You Need A Lawyer - Whether Your Story is Good or Weak..?

10.  Epilogue By FuelMix

There Will Always Be Cheaters And Scammers On The Web

1.  There will always be cheaters and scammers on the Web.  That is the nature of the beast, even though every aspect of a person's web use is traceable.

2.  The majority of men using online sites or mobile hookup apps are idle browsers or chronic time wasters (their own time and the time of others they string along).

3.  Other than fake stats, no-shows, rudeness, lies, the inability to properly reply to an ad and the silent treatment, the majority of gay men using online sites or mobile hookup apps are not serial blackmailers.

Fuck The Online Hookup And The Mobile App

4.  We've never been thrilled with online hookup sites or mobile hookup apps. We refuse to use Grindr, Jack'd, Scruff whatever.  We freely admit to checking Craigslist everyday for the giggle value which sometimes gives us blog material.  Sometimes we upload an ad on Craigslist, but while the (usually inadequate) responses arrive, our own failure rate of an actual hookup is very high.

Why The Gay Saunas Win Most Of The Time

5.  That's why FuelMix prefers the gay saunas:
  • Comparatively less locational risk - you're not in a hotel, hourly guest house, your place, his place;
  • No back and forth endless emails to string you along;
  • They are licensed establishments;
  • No need to tidy your room or your apartment beforehand;
  • Pay once usually on entry (except Galaxy where you pay on your way out);
  • No chance of further payments unless you show up again;

  • Your stuff is safe in a locker;
  • Everybody knows why everybody else is there;
  • Less chance of being blackmailed unless you're an obvious hyprocrite like a gin-swilling pillar of the Anglican church who claims to be str8 and happily married, but is cheating on his wife by sucking cock at the glory hole;
  • See and feel the merchandise right there;
  • Unless you specifically show up with a money boy via a deal done beforehand, hustling in the premises is not permitted;
  • Less chance of spiked drinks;

  • Minimum age to get in usually 18 (although in this town, it could be argued that it should be 16).  Staff will ask to see ID if they're not sure;
  • Can get group action in far less time than it would take to organize it via a mobile app;
  • In a gay sauna, you accept or reject immediately. No time wasting;
  • When the sauna staff know you, they'll look out for you;
  • Can't find what you're looking for..?  Go to another one. Or come back another time;

Gay Blackmail In Hong Kong 3

8.   Dealing With A Blackmail Threat In Advance
(Combining the Reader's email and extensive additions by FuelMix)

1.  Before Meeting A Stranger For A Hookup

(a)  State Upfront Whether You Are Or Are Not Looking For A Moneyboy.  Do NOT be afraid to ask him whether he's a Moneyboy if you're not sure.

(b)  Demand to see ID at once if you have any doubts about legal age. Do NOT hesitate to drop him right there.

(c)  Do NOT reveal too much personal information - especially if you are bringing the stranger to your place or hotel room.  You should prepare and rehearse an honest script about yourself covering your your age, ethnicity and health status - but it should be left very general when it comes to your career, your family members, Significant Others you might be cheating on, whether you're living alone - preferably without lying. You should not hesitate to say that you don't talk about your job in detail with casual encounters.  If the stranger presses you to reveal more about your job, get suspicious.

(d)  If your building has a Building Concierge at the Ground Floor Lobby, whereby guests must sign in and produce ID, DO IT.  No exceptions.  It's your safety and security first at all times.

(e)  Do NOT tell the stranger beforehand that he will have to produce ID to enter your building, whether he is with you or whether he shows up alone.  Better to catch him off guard with that one.  If the stranger objects to producing ID - even if he is with you - simply inform him deal's off and show him the exit to the building immediately.  Do NOT be afraid to lose face in front of the Concierge.  Again, it's your safety and security first at all times.

(f)  If the stranger has to show up at your building, make it clear that YOU will come downstairs and bring him to your apartment.

(g)  If the stranger is coming to your hotel room, ALWAYS arrange to meet them in the Hotel Lobby IN FULL VIEWING DISTANCE OF THE FRONT DESK STAFF (and the hotel security cameras).......Do NOT be like those idiots advertising on Craigslist saying that they will leave their hotel room door slightly open with the lights turned off.

(h)  If the stranger is coming to your building or to your hotel, ask him beforehand what he will be wearing so that you can recognize him.  Get it in writing.  You will therefore have his pic, his profile and what he was wearing on that day and time.  It could be important later.

(i)  If the stranger who shows up in the hotel lobby, or in the lobby of your building, is not as advertised on his profile, dump him immediately - politely and firmly.  If he gets nasty, point out there are security cameras and/or hotel staff, Building Concierge.

(j)  Save and archive your pre-hookup chats on email, Grindr, WhatsApp, WeChat etc.  2 weeks to a month should be fine.  In the event of a backlash, you have evidence of what was actually said.

2.  Get Your House Or Hotel Room In Order - Literally

(a)  Hide your valuables or remove them from the vicinity:

If you're in a hotel:
  • lock the suitcases;
  • stash your laptop, tablet, USB drives, mobile hard drives, CDs in a lockable compartment. Put them in locked suitcases for extra security;
  • be especially careful of your Filofax diary,  your business cards and those of your clients or associates that the stranger could easily pick up;
  • decide whether you're comfortable keeping your passport, cash, credit cards in your hotel room in the suitcases or in the In-Room hotel safe or the main hotel safe via the Front Desk;
  • be wary of offering and pouring alcoholic drinks to a stranger in your hotel room who's only there for sex.  That's a great way of launching an accusation that the drink was spiked and it snowballs from there. You get the picture.....(if you really need a drink before sex, do it in the hotel bar)

  • Always, always shower together and dry off together.  That will stop him getting any ideas. Watch him carefully as he gets dressed and how he deals with his backpack.
  • When he's dressed, start moving yourself and him towards the door.  Keep him in front of you at all times.  Better still, walk him to the street;
In your apartment:
  • be wary of offering and pouring alcoholic drinks to a stranger in your apartment who's only there for sex.  That's a great way of launching an accusation that the drink was spiked and it snowballs from there. You get the picture.....
  • if your place looks like a frat pad, you're asking for trouble. It's easy enough to clear away and hide sensitive stuff like bank statements, bills, business cards.
  • shut or lock the doors of certain rooms that are out of bounds. The stranger is not entitled to a grand tour or a walkabout;
  • if you live in a 300 square foot shit hole err.... pardon, "studio apartment", just off the Central Escalator in SoHo or NoHo you have your work cut out for you.  Go over your apartment with a fine tooth comb;
  • always shower together and dry off together (we're not sure how that would work if you live in a 300 square foot shit hole err.....pardon, "studio apartment" just off the Central Escalator in SoHo or NoHo).
  • You are not obliged to entertain in your apartment afterwards.  Far better to walk him to the street;

Gay Blackmail In Hong Kong 2

7.   Commentary On The Facts

(1)  "I think that highlighting the problem of blackmail is good because I can see how some men might be hesitant to report because of social/family/work pressures or lack of support from enforcement authorities and this subject is under-reported".
-----A Reader 11 January 2016
1.  If this GAM is a serial convicted blackmailer on the loose, then one thing should be very clear.  He's had ample time to consider and perfect his technique - first on gay chatrooms and now on the hookup apps. Being somewhere near 30, he's definitely not the 21 year old that he represents himself to be on cyber - and certainly not the under-21 for the purposes of criminal proceedings.  As we pointed out before, the de facto age of consent in this city for heteros and homos is 16.

2.  The GAM seemed very interested in GWM's job and whether he had a boyfriend.  He specifically asked these questions twice.

3.  The hookup took place late in the evening about 10pm at GWM's apartment. This could have been a deliberate ploy on GAM's part to strengthen his case to stay the night and/or to hustle for cash knowing fully well that after sex, GWM would be tired,  he would need to get to bed for work the next day and would probably pay up and shut up - thereby laying himself open to future cash calls.

4.  GAM's constant bragging about his expensive leather jacket and the display of high-end face and body care products in GWM's apartment was both intimidation and a distraction.  Our impression is that GAM was laying the groundwork to present himself as a high class whore.

5.  GAM's request that he be photographed sucking GWM's cock was intended to supplement his case of alleged underage sex.  It was a mistake for GWM to allow himself to be photographed.

6.  GAM's request that he be fucked bareback (which GWM refused) and subsequent complaint that GWM was "too big", thereby causing him injury was all part of a script to bolster a spurious claim of underage sex and strengthen the blackmail attempt.

7.  The showing of pictures by GAM of other middle aged men and the screenshot of a bank transfer of cash from Thailand - done after GAM had obtained access to GWM's WiFi - was pretty slick.  GAM was setting up a 2-pronged attack against GWM i.e. that GWM had knowingly fucked an underage local whore AND injured him in the process.

(2)  "Bravo! You go where others are afraid to go and you do it with intelligence and finesse.  Having also experienced a gay blackmail attempt and the trauma that it brings, I acknowledge the real value you are giving to other readers".

-----A Reader 11 January 2016

8.  The First count of Blackmail was brazen. What probably saved GWM was his insistence to see the medical bills.  This forced the GAM to back down from his demand of HK$600.00 - at least initially, before falsely pleading injury and poverty.  This was the Second count of Blackmail and/or a count of Obtaining Money By Deception.

9.  Later that day GAM revealed he was a money boy and demanded a reduced sum of HK$500.00. That amounts to a second count of Obtaining Money By Deception since had never revealed his purported money boy status before. By providing GWM with his bank account details and name, GAM facilitated a Google search by GWM. Either GAM slipped up or didn't care.  We suspect the latter.

10.  The exposure that GAM was a serial convicted blackmailer had no effect on GAM since he claimed he had not specified any consequences.  This was absurd since it was GAM who threatened to report GWM to the Police -  and then had the gall to say that if GWM reported him to the Police, it would not be of any use since he was well versed in the elements of Blackmail.

11.  GAM's final demand to be paid HK$100.00 with a clear threat that he would continue to call GWM (implicitly for more cash) amounted to a Third count of Blackmail.

(3)  "I commend the reader who contacted you with his experience and I commend you for going ahead and publishing it.  Gay men absolutely need to know that blackmail exists in their world.  Your blog gives insight and value to its readers compared to the politically correct fluff found in so many other publications".

-----A Reader 11 January 2016

12. GWM's decisions to block GAM and change the WiFi password were correct.

13.  GAM is a small-time blackmailer operating on high volume. We're not going to speculate on his mental state.  But he switches without warning between outright blackmail and requests for financial help. His preferred transaction method appears to be by way of bank transfer - either to make it easier to obtain payment from his overseas "clients" who've left Hong Kong and whom he's threatened; or to make it harder for the Police to arrest him as the money is handed to him.

(4)  "This person had messaged me several times recently on Jack'd, all in the space of a few months.  I'd always blocked him, as I'd recognized him from those online news reports with his picture. However, he seems to be registering new accounts quickly.  You're right that he's operating on high volume".

Gay Blackmail In Hong Kong 1

Submitted by a GWM reader here in Very Rich Megacity on 9 January 2016 who set out in detail a gay Blackmail and Extortion attempt on him on 6 and 7 January 2016.  The perpetrator was a local Chinese guy.  The facts unfolded via Grindr, WhatsApp and in the GWM's apartment.

Hi FuelMix

I have enjoyed your blog and benefitted greatly from the sauna review :)...I feel a sense of civic duty to share my true encounter just this week with a gay blackmailer in Hong Kong. I will leave it up to you to decide if this in the public interest to publish or not. The name of the person is real, so feel free to hide/change if it breaks any privacy laws.( do professional criminals enjoy data privacy protection too?.. )

1.  Before The HookUp via Grindr and WhatsApp

1.  Grindr - GWM and GAM made contact. GAM described himself as 21 and sent several pics of himself sucking cocks of unidentified people.  He was nothing to look at, but GWM was looking for action.  Conversation moved to WhatsApp

2.  WhatsApp - Conversation about each other's jobs and whether GWM has a boyfriend.  GAM claimed to be working in the mortgage department of a bank and said he's a bottom and looking to be fucked.

3.  GWM met GAM around 10pm at the MTR Station. GAM had delayed the meetup twice that evening claiming he was working late. On the way to GWM'S apartment, GAM enquired again about GWM's job and whether he had a boyfriend.

2.  At GWM's Apartment - The Set Up

1.  GAM starts bragging about the expensive leather jacket he's wearing.

2.  Before sex, GAM lays out a range of high-end face and body care products that he's going to use when he showers after sex. Done intentionally to get GWM to notice their apparent cost.

3.  GAM asked to use GWM's WiFi.  GWM punched in his password on GAM's device.

4.   GAM asked if he could take pictures of himself sucking GWM's cock.  GWM agreed but covered his face and checked the pictures GAM had taken.

5.  GWM used a condom and fucked GAM who was doing poppers.  GAM asked if GWM would fuck him bareback and cum inside him. GWM refused.

6.  After being fucked GAM went to the toilet claiming that GWM was "too big".

7.  GAM showed a reluctance to leave and showed face and body pics of middle aged men, plus their business cards - as well as a bank transfer screenshot of someone in Thailand sending USD300.00 to GAM's bank account.  GWM finally got GAM to leave.

3.  The Next Day - The Blackmail Attempt via WhatsApp

1.  GAM claimed his ass was hurting after the fucking and that he went to see a doctor.  But GAM also claimed he was missing GWM and wanted to meet that day.  GAM said he liked to stay with GWM after being fucked.

2.  About an hour later, GAM again said he wanted to meet. GWM said better to meet next week.

3. GAM responded that GWM must meet him today as he had GWM's address AND that he was going to report GWM to Police for:
  • fucking a 20 year old who is underage;
  • injuring his asshole from the fucking;
  • doing illegal drugs namely poppers;

4.  GWM points out that it was GAM who brought his own poppers.

5.  GWM is concerned that GAM might in fact be underage but decided to play it low key in the face of these threats.

6.  GAM asked GWM to pay his medical bills of HK$600.00.  GWM said produce the receipts. GAM said he can't.  GWM said go back to the doctor and get them. GAM backed down says GWM didn't have to pay, but should show some kindness since he injured his ass and that he is poor.  GWM said again produce the receipts.

4.  Via WhatsApp - From Blackmail To Money Boy.  Identity Revealed.

1.   Later that day  GAM contacts GWM and announces he is a money boy.  Now asks GWM for immediate payment of HK$500.00 (previously demanded HK$600.00).

2.  GWM says he will pay so long as GAM does not contact him again.  GWM requests GAM's bank account details and full name.

3.  GAM replies with bank account number and his name:  Alex Lo Man Nam

5.  GWM Does Google Search

1.  Turns out Alex Lo Man Nam aged about 28 or 29 is a well known convicted serial blackmailer mentioned in Apple Daily, South China Morning Post, Flickr and other blogs. Photos exist online of him wearing a mask running into and out of Court and running away from photographers.

2.  He's been convicted several times for blackmail since 2007 and was fined and jailed.  Pursuant to Court Orders he repaid some of his victims.  Latest conviction apparently June 2015.

3.  Used to lurk on gaydar and gayhk chatrooms.  Now operating on phone apps like Grindr.

4.  Originally scammed local Chinese.  Now scamming expatriates or business visitors in their hotels.  Thickskinned and unrepentant.

6.  Via WhatsApp - GWM Confronts GAM With His Research

1.  GAM denies blackmail since he didn't stipulate any consequences. Claims to be well experienced in the elements of blackmail and a report to the Police will not be of any use.

2.  GAM then says GWM does not need to pay.  But he will still report GWM to Police for illegal drugs.  GWM points out it was GAM who brought the poppers to his apartment. GAM then says GWM can just pay him HK$100.00 but will still continue to contact him as he has lots of free time.

3.  GWM blocks GAM's number.  GWM changes WiFi Password.

Love Hotels

A reader sent in this request today (slightly edited for clarity):

Hey FuelMix
I got this buddy and he wants to show me a good time !! Problem is we both are stuck at home and cannot host !!
Despite the wide variety of saunas in HKG, my friend doesn't want to go.  Are there any gay-friendly love hotels or other establishments in this city that you know of?
I love your blog !!
Great work
A gweilo

FuelMix says:

FuelMix has not personally tried the Love Hotels but there are several of them around town.  He hears from GAMs that there are some gay-friendly ones in Kowloon around Jordan - sort of in the Shanghai Street, Temple Street areas.  They are very popular with GAMs who pick up the hot studly Pakistani guys around Jordan, Tsim Sha Tsui and Sham Shui Po.  Approximate cost is HK$200.00 for 2 hours in a small, basic private room with a toilet and shower.

The term "gay-friendly" needs some clarification in relation to these Love Hotels.  They don't go out of their way to advertise to a gay clientele, but they won't turn 2 guys away either.  The ones in Jordan are apparently well used to seeing 2 guys check in.

Here is a list of Love Hotels taken from Time Out Hong Kong, published October 14 - 27, 2009.  Since the info is about a year and a half old, suggest you phone them beforehand and check their rates and policies:

Corinne Hotel -  (bright signs and flowing lights on a 2-storey building) 30 - 32 Cumberland Road, Kowloon Tong
Tel: 2336 7074

The Eden - (spacious rooms, big beds and special rooms with ceiling mirrors, Jacuzzis) 148 Wellington Street, Central
Tel: 2851 0303

Grampian Mansion - (the closest thing Hong Kong has to an actual motel...looks like a Holiday Inn with ample parking spaces.  Perfect for a little drive-in action) 11 - 11A Grampian Road, Kowloon City
Tel: 2338 9449

Kent Motel - (an old favourite - book for 2 hours or overnight for check ins after 11pm.  Free adult movies play all night long) 20 Kent Road, Kowloon Tong
Tel: 2338 3517

Park Excellent Hotel - (a trusty Wanchai spot with affordable rates for 2 hours - and there's a minibar in every room) 275 Hennessy Road, Wanchai
Tel: 2587 9988

Romantic Hotel - (the most iconic of the Kowloon Tong Love Hotels, this was a hotspot in the 1980s for celebrities and the well-to-do who needed little "down time".  One of the few institutions left as the area turns into a Kindergarten hub) 7 Kent Road, Kowloon Tong
Tel: 2338 0860

Villa Victoria - (one of the most established hourly hotel chains in Hong Kong, this location is favoured for its proximity to business districts from Central to Causeway Bay (FuelMix says there's also one in Tsim Sha Tsui on Humphrey's Avenue) 209 Lockhart Road, Wanchai
Tel: 2578 7823

If any reader out there has info on "gay friendly" Love Hotels here in Very Rich Megacity, send it in.
