Double's Pricing Policy

Received from a reader today: 

I would like to share my experience last night (Wednesday 23 May 2012). I had a free entrance voucher from January '12 (weekdays only) with no expiry date, so I decided to drop by Double after dinner last night. When I presented the voucher, the counter staff told me that this voucher can only be used together with a membership card. 

Granted, the door policy might have been changed since my last visit more than 2 months ago - before this visit I can be considered a 'regular', every Sunday during nude nights. The counter staff went on to say that by leaving my mobile number for the membership I will get SMS notifications for special discounted nights. Thinking that since I'm already there, I obediently signed up for the membership (HKD 130), and he gave me another free voucher for use on weekdays. 

It really is baffling how different saunas have such confusing tiered pricing - do we really need to stage a boycott to get it through their thick skulls that this is wrong? Having been to quite a few other saunas, I still come back to Double. Yes, there can be quite a lot of attitude here, but at least the quality's a given.

“…..can only be used with a membership card” huh?  Unless FuelMix is mistaken, he has not seen a single gay sauna “Membership Card” here in Very Rich Megacity since the collapse of Gameboys in Wanchai about 10 years ago.  They actually had a card which said “Membership Card” with a card number. It had to be produced on entry every time together with the customer’s ID card, which was then checked on the computer.

The discount cards handed out by saunas these days, don’t count.  

If you are in possession of a “Membership Card” issued by Double, please scan an image and e-mail it to the blog for publication.  Enquiring minds would like to see it.

Basically, when you showed up, you got milked for the Full Price – HK$130.00 – which incidentally, does NOT show up on their website, most of which is in Chinese.  FuelMix suspects that is the price which the sauna would justify as the "Membership Fee".  If so, why not publicize it?

The mobile phone SMS notification deal is not new.  Big Top Sauna, just down the road from Double has been doing it from Day One.  The staff at Big Top will openly say they are in competition with Double.  Moreover they will tell you that they have a much more liberal entrance policy.
