In verification of your recent review of "Soda", previously "Action", I went there on Sunday afternoon at 4. Below is my personal opinion of this "new" sauna.
It's been a while since my last visit. It was still called "Action" when I went there the last time but it had fallen out from the ABC group. I have already written off this sauna based on my last experience. It was FIM's fresh review of this rebranded sauna that made me decide to check this out. So, I went there on a blazing hot Sunday afternoon around 4. I noticed that the banner outside the building was still showed as "Action" with its eye-catching rainbow strips. Everything was the same and even the reception was very familiar. Only the colour tone was slightly noticeably different. According to FIM's review, the standard admission was $130, but the weekend rate (Sat,Sun and public holidays) was $150. Upon payment, I was given a 20% coupon valid for 2 weeks. In the Action era, with the stamp card, one automatically got 20% off and coupons could be jointly used.
After the door, I saw what FIM meant in his review about the enlarged locker room. Indeed, it was a pleasant surprise. I also agree the decor was somewhat successful. The open planning and pure black colour tone not only helped visually increase the space but also improve (deceptively) the hygiene of the place. When I arrived, I counted that there had been around 20 pairs of shoes laying above the lockers and yet a steady stream of guests were still coming in.
As FIM said, the shower area, steam room and sauna were still the same. The food counter then was turned into a lounge. The dark area was still the same except that the sling rooms were converted into a few smaller cabins.
About the clientele, I could recognise a few familiar faces. Mostly GAM between 30-50s , 4 non-GAMs, none was attractive. There's a bit stand and model attitude but once in the pitch dark area, everyone became a bit more active and assertive, some could be quite aggressive.
I noticed that some of the features in the premises seemed similar to those in Hutong, such as long narrow corridors before dark room with hooks for towels on the wall, general decor of the changing area and the lounge, special offer through whatsapp, etc. Due to Hutong's success and reputation, Soda might want to copy its style. However, in general, I would say the revamp of this sauna was positive and I will go back.
Hope you like my report.
Yours
