Being Gay In Morocco
Here's an article published in Afrik.com on 4 May 2010 entitled, Being Gay In Morocco. The young man being interviewed is 23 years old. 6 years ago, he founded Kif-Kif, the first Moroccan gay association to support GLBT rights and in April 2010, he founded Mithly, the first gay magazine in the Arab world.
Gay sex is a tough topic in Africa and the Middle East. It has existed and been documented in their culture for centuries, but in places like Morocco it is a criminal offence, although convictions are apparently rare. On the other side, are harsh conservative Muslims who see the public discussion of gays and gay sex as damaging to their view of the social fabric.
And in the middle stands this 23 year old guy. Not surprisingly the offices of Kif-Kif and Mithly have been established in Madrid, Spain. He's extremely articulate. Read the interview in Afrik.com linked above. FuelMix has decided to link Mithly to the blog. The magazine is presently in Arabic, but hopes to have an English online edition in the future.
Kinda stands in stark contrast to what white 23 year old fags spend their time doing huh?
