Fags And Carbon Footprints

A reader responded in some detail to the questions FuelMix raised in his post, Feel The Chill.  It's an interesting read, particularly his comments about the carbon footprints of poppers, dildos, hustlers and a fag with HIV orAIDS.

Of course, I do not agree with your introduction explaining that climate change is only a social construction, a conspiracy by people who want to dictate the world... but I have learnt

it is utterly useless to discuss this on online forums.

I do find it amazing how such a large part of mankind has no problems questioning climate science without knowing much about it, its a bit like denying that smoking is bad, but at the same time no one has a problem with a science of frequencies on which our mobile phones are based, the speed of light on which internet optic fibers are based, although there is just as much room for debate in those scientific fields.

As for your simple claim that climate scientists were lying, I think you are referring to the "climate gate" in a UK university during the copenhagen conference... and all the commissions and institutions that studied the emails, questioned the academics, all came to the conclusion that they had not lied.

Anyway. My point is that I was looking for information on the greenhouse power of poppers. Poppers evaporate into different gases.  I once read about it in a UK gay magazine 5 years ago, but forgot about it. Those gases are 100s or 1000s of times more potent greenhouse gases than CO²: Which makes them a very bad drug for the environment.

So I’ll try to answer some of your silly questions, because some of them are good questions and can be answered.  

1.   What's the carbon footprint of a gay sauna? 

Pretty high I suppose. I’ve lived in the Arctic where saunas are well needed as a treat to your body and it is massive on energy consumption. Could be better if there was a system to valorize the energy that is lost through the building. But in well built buildings, the use of the sauna will help heat up the whole building (my university had a sauna), and then it’s not that bad.

But gay saunas are bad, cos gay guys cannot even stand the actual sauna, they only want the water.

2.   What's the carbon footprint of a gay circuit party? 

As much as the next big party? Depends how people got there, if they drove, flew or cycled...

3.   What's the carbon footprint of a gay bar?

Same as a bar. Going out to places such as restaurants, bars, theaters, actually increases your own personal carbon footprint as a citizen. But we're not gonna stop going out. So we need more environmentally conscious places to go out to!

Also, alcohol has a substantial carbon and ecological footprint, as it is made from things that would otherwise be food, it is highly caloric, and the process of distilling is energy intensive.

4.   What's the carbon footprint of a gay cruise?

Same as a pensioners' cruise. Cruise ships tend to use bad fuel, and get most of the onboard electricity from fossil fuel, which is terrible.

5.   What's the carbon footprint of a fag cruising on the street, or in a public toilet?

None!! Thats actually much better than going into a bar! No light, no consumption, very little infrastructure is required...

6.   What's the carbon footprint of a fag on meth, crack, weed, poppers and amphetamines?

The big question!!! Most of the drugs have a terrible impact. Most of them carry also a very bad social responsibility, causing armed conflicts (Afghanistan, Colombia, Venezuela), a lot of people ending up in jail for the distribution, many lives ruined.

As for the ecological impact, its the fact that farmers grow poppies or coca instead of growing food.

The process of transforming the raw product into drugs, or creating other chemical drugs, creates a lot of toxic by-products.

As for the carbon footprint, then all drugs score quite low, excepts for one: outdoor weed. Indoor weed requires a lot of powerful light, heating, humidity regulation... anyone who ever tried to grow weed in their cupboard knows.

Poppers are just pure and super greenhouse gases, it should be forbidden just for that reason!

I don't remember all the details of other drugs, but if you take into account the armed conflicts around drugs (and their carbon intensivity), the production and everything..... you should start growing weed on your balcony, and stop everything else.

7.   What's the carbon footprint of a gay orgy in a private home or a hotel?

Theres not much to it compared to just hanging around in your place. Although you will probably push up the heating a few degrees more if its winter. You could also consider the impact of all sexual accessories such as lube, condoms... but I think health safety and the quality of people's sex lives outweigh the environmental considerations.

8.   What's the carbon footprint of a hustler?

Depends in which city he lives, and which transport he uses to reach his client, but as jobs go, this must be one of the most environmentally friendly. Unless you consider all the gym time, the animal protein and protein powders intake...

9.   What's the carbon footprint of that pack of 3 condoms you fucked your way through?

There is one. It’s rubber. Should be well disposed of.  But probably less than this extra plastic bag you took to wrap yesterday's shopping.

10.   What's the carbon footprint of a fag's stash of porn mags and DVDs?

DVDs are not so good, downloads are better. Stash of porn, glossy magazines is not so good. Don’t think gays behave any worse than straight people with magazines though.

11.   What's the carbon footprint of that dildo moulded from that porn star's cock?

Other considerations would rather be toxicity. The Green Party has recently brought the issue up to the German parliament, as there has been very little regulations, and there are lots of carcinogens in those dildos, and its not very good for your colon or your vagina.

12.   What's the carbon footprint of a professional gay porn shoot?

No idea. Never been to one.

13.   What's the carbon footprint of a fag who's HIV / AIDS?

I don’t know much about the carbon footprint of the drugs that need to be manufactured to keep him alive. However, the drugs that he will piss, some powerful molecules that do not biodegrade, join the rest of all the antibiotics and hormones we swallow and then pee into our water systems.

All of this ends up in rivers, in lands, in oceans... and it’s not innocent.

However, a guy with HIV+ will die younger than without it, stopping his pollution maybe 10 or 20 or 30 years earlier... and that is very environmentally friendly to die young.
