Death Of A Gay Ghetto 1
Vancouver's Dirty Gay Secret And Why No

About Me
Hello FuelMix
Hello FuelMix
I've been watching your zero bullshit blog for a while. I'm a GWM who's
lived in YVR most of his life. I've been involved with gay businessess in
this city for over 25 years. I've seen people come, go and die. Now I'm
watching YVR's gay ghetto die.
The culture of lies, deceit, denial, Gay Media coverup and outright Political
Correctness has censored rational analysis in this part of the world. So
I'm turning to an Asian gay blog to tell the truth.
Downtown YVR And Gay Davie Street
There's no denying the natural physical beauty of downtown YVR with the sea and the mountains. That's just a mask hiding an ugly social reality of drugs, homelessness, disease and degeneration. One is not supposed to point that out. Just point to the mountains, the sea and Stanley Park. Tell everybody we live in the Best Place In the World and smile constantly. But downtown YVR - generally Davie Street, Denman Street and Robson Street has been in decline for years with a large number of vacancies. It's obvious for everyone to see.
Davie Street in particular, the main artery for the 2 blocks of Gay Ghetto, is in terminal decline. The druggies and the homeless litter the street. Nobody says anything, nobody does anything.
The gay shops and bars on Davie Street are low grade and have a high failure rate. They are interspersed with fast food franchises and boarded up shops. The gay politicos think that Davie Street is a mecca for foreign visiting gay men. Gay foreigners do swing by as tourists, gasp in disgust and disbelief, ask "is that all there is....?" and never return.
The Gay Clubs And The Gay Bars
The gay bar scene is limited to Davie. There are no gay bars on Denman anymore. The gay bars on Davie are dead or barely existing. They're not bringing in the crowds. You don't have to wait in line anymore.
Same goes for the Clubs. 2 gay promoters are maintaining a stranglehold on local club events. They've been doing it for years, bad mouthing any opposition. The joke is the customers are getting tired of it and attendance is falling off (but they would never admit that). It's pretty obvious that the same clique of small-town Alberta DJs are doing the rounds. Who the hell wants to pay for that.....?
Gay Ski Week Whistler
Despite the hype, that's been a bust. The reports from those who went to Whistler, made it clear that people were only staying in that locality. YVR wasn't considered central to anything other than a place in which to arrive and depart. 50 bucks for a jaded Pool Party ? And that doesn't include the price of the party favours.

Having seen some of the pictures, the crowd
was not inspiring and the ambience felt like a high school dance. The lack of sophistication in a so-called
premier gay event in Whistler wasn't cutting it with visitors. Several
commented to me that gay YVR and gay Whistler lacked any excitement. Yet
again, the same little clique of small-town Alberta and Vancouver Island
DJs and worn out drag queens were trucked up to Whistler to Emcee yet another
Mr Gay this-or-that contest and party with the same fools you'd find in YVR.
And don't forget the same 5 fags sharing a double-occupancy room in Whistler..........
The Gay Saunas in YVR
And don't forget the same 5 fags sharing a double-occupancy room in Whistler..........
The Gay Saunas in YVR
The so-called flagship sauna is
Steamworks. It's well known in YVR that Steamworks attracts the hustlers,
the homeless and has a history of customers overdosing. Its standards of
hygiene and management have fallen badly. Their steam room and dry sauna
have been down for weeks. There have been a string of complaints online
about this place for months particularly on Squirt. But surprise,
surprise.........it all gets censored minutes later.
Another "raunchier" sauna, M2M has been in a chronic state of
disrepair for months.
Meanwhile, up the road on Davie Street, F212, that was struggling with it
customer numbers appears to have made a comeback by default. Nothing's
changed there. Just progressively uglier looking pretty boys overdosing.
The Gay Drug Scene In YVR
YVR's gay drug scene is internationally notorious and getting worse. For years it was weed, amphetamines, cocaine and crystal meth. Now, GHB is big in the gay saunas.
Surprisingly, heroin is making a comeback amongst the str8s. But hey......give it time and gay boys will be all over that too. For such a small gay "community", the drug use can only be described in one word.......rampant.
In Part 2, I will give my views on the big picture and the future of gay YVR.
