Here is a review of Colony gay sauna sent in by a reader today:
Visited this place on a Sunday afternoon.
Situated in an old walk-up (maybe even listed) building.
Once you paid and get in you are in the big lounge area, with one corner lined with lockers with padlocks. Since it is an old building it has a high ceiling so they built a mezzanine above the lockers for more lockers. The whole changing area is part of the lounge area and here you can kind of see why the are called Colony. The deco has a smidgen of colonial flavour to it - if you lay back, close your eyes, and think of England. It's inoffensive enough. There is also a bar/ service counter where you can get soft drinks, tea and coffee and cream cakes (I assume for eating). The lounge is wrapped by a terrace so while this is an outdoor space it does not benefit from any direct sunlight for the fear of losing its privacy. It also suffers from the constant noise from Ladies Market and heavy traffic.
A corridor leads to the back of the building where the wet area is. A big jacuzzi straddles between the showers and the steam room. Facilities are well maintained, perhaps due to their newness and/or lack of use (?). The high ceiling of the building continues to this part and sitting in the jacuzzi you can look through (albeit through bamboo curtains) to the opposite side of the street; making this sauna a lot less claustrophobic than others.
The other corner of this section is the toilet with a small LCD TV high up on the wall outside - though you will have to watch it (local TV) standing in the corridor. Which is just as well because there were only 3 people around. next is two rows of rooms with the usual facilities with peep boxes. They utilised the height of the room with a bunk area though in the dark it is very easy to walk right into the ladder.
I cannot comment on the clientele as there were only a handful but a few more came in by the time I was ready to go. And the new comers did not give me any incentives to stay.
All and all, it is a clean and pleasant place though it's the quality of customers that matters most to patrons. And in this instance I cannot make any impartial comments due to the very small sampling size.
FuelMix says: Thank you for the feedback. Kinda suspected it was near the Ladies Market in Mong Kok but was going to reserve comment until viewed personally. Odd location for a sauna and in a (listed) building too. One can only assume that it's intended to be an alternative to Double, Alexander or Secret, which are all in the vicinity.
Is this joint open 24 hours?
According to the website they are open overnight on Sat till 11am Sunday, so not 24hr. btw I forgot to add that they are a bit over-zealous with the dettol / bleach in the jacuzzi.
